Born and brought up in New Delhi, Ratna left for London and consequently the United States for her education. She received two undergraduate degrees; one at The University of Pennsylvania and the other at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Both schools afforded her an excellent education in fine art photography and a broader education in academia. She went on to do her Master’s in Photogra
phy at the Rochester Institute of Technology where she concentrated in perfecting her photography skills. At both schools she won numerous awards including a travel award upon graduation from her undergraduate studies. After graduation she worked alongside several photographers shooting weddings, sailing regattas, architecture, fine art landscapes and portraits. Last summer she finished a prestigious residency at The Center for Photography at Woodstock, a gallery cm education space that has showcased photographers like Mary Ellen Mark, Photo Agency VII and Alec Soth. In 2013, she was nominated for the Škoda Prize for Emerging Artists judged by Girish Shahane and Abhay Sardesai. Most recently, she had a show at the Mumbai based gallery, Clark House, in October. Ratna continues to shoot professionally and her range in photography spans from Wedding, Fine Art and Documentary work. Marigold photography is Ratna’s brainchild where she shares her passion, vision & lens and she showcases and travels the world for it.
