Self Driving Cars have always been the mainstay of Science Fiction - Star Wars, The Avengers, and Batman are a just few examples.

Experiments on self-driving automobiles started way back in the 1920s. Over the next century, numerous iterations of such automobiles took place. The 2010s saw incredible growth in the Artificial Intelligence field, which only boosted the process to a fully self-driving model.

Tesla has been at the forefront with the release of revolutionizing technologies such as Tesla Autopilot. More recently, it has been working on fully self-driving technology, which is already running beta tests.

Gone are the days when you would have to go out of the house to make a money transfer from the bank, to pay the electricity bill, or to book the tickets for your favorite travel destination. All of these things can now be done online. But what makes these exchanges of money and data safe for us? What is the technology protecting it?
Bearing this in mind, the Technical Council, in collaboration with ICSS (Indian Cyber Security Solutions) is organizing a set of cybersecurity workshops for the students of IIT Gandhinagar. The workshop will be headed by Mr. Abhishek Mitra and will provide hands-on experience in the world of ethical hacking. E-certificates will be awarded to participants, while deserving candidates stand a chance to win internship and placement opportunities.
So pull up your socks and clear your calendar on August 7th and 8th from 2 PM to 5 PM for there’s a lot to learn and a lot of fun in store for every single one of you.

You are at a supermarket in 1974. You feel a sudden craving for chewing gum so you pick up some Wrigley's Juicy Fruit gum. You go to the cash counter to pay and you see the owner pointing a weird-looking gun at your pleasant pack of gum. You ask the owner what it is that he is doing and that’s exactly what we’re here to tell you. The date was June 26, 1974. Ten barcode scanners were put in supermarkets for their opening into the commercial world. The first product to ever be scanned was the Juicy Fruit gum (Mmmm! Tasty!).

Since then, barcode technology has come a long way with nearly every product bearing a barcode from a bag of chips to your flight tickets. The number of barcodes scanned each day is in the order of 5 billion.

It was 18th June 1983. The Challenger Space Shuttle was due for launch at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The entire world held its breath, for this was an event to be written down in the pages of human history - on this day Sally Ride became the first American Woman to travel to outer space.

While this might seem a trivial feat today, Sally Ride inspired a generation of women to break stereotypes and usher in a new era of women’s empowerment.

In pursuit of development, we often fail to ensure fair representation of all strata of our society. It’s high time we celebrate and encourage the progress of those once marginalized.

We, the Technical Council of IIT Gandhinagar, pledge to nurture an environment of inclusiveness and tolerance for every member of the IIT-GN community.
