Anasuya was a multi talented artist who excelled in music of every genre but folk music remained her passion. She started notating the songs and used her classical training to embellish them while retaining their original authenticity. Her voice had a rustic timbre that lent itself naturally to folk music. She became a trailblazer who introduced folk music in Radio programmes and in the National programme of music in All India Radio. Anasuya dedicated her life to performing, popularising and propogating folk music. Many of the songs that she collected and sang have become popular film songs.
Anasuya has bequeethed an invaluable legacy to the world of music. She categorised her vast collection of songs and original compositions in 7 volumes and published them along with lyrics and music notations. Besides these, Anasuya wrote several short stories and 3 works of fiction after the age of 80. At 94, she wrote her autobiography, Asamana Anasuya, which was published when she was 95. It became the inspiration for the title of this documentary.

Dial 9 for Devi, is brought to you by Saptaparni, Navaratri is an auspicious festival spanning nine nights of worship, celebrated in various forms all across India- veritably a crowning jewel of October.
Nine different forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during each of the nine days of Navaratri, as part of ‘Durga Puja’. They are: Śhailaputrī, Brahmachāriṇī, Chandraghaṇṭā, Kuṣhmāṇḍā, Skandamātā, Kātyāyanī, Kālarātrī, Mahāgaurī and Siddhidātrī.

Join us on October 21, Saturday, at the picturesque amphitheatre in Saptaparni at 6 pm for a two-hour concert titled “Dial 9 for Devi”, where we celebrate and worship the Goddess through her story told in music and slokas.

The team of artists - Ranjani Sivakumar (Vocal), Dinakar Ramaraju (Violin) Ramakrishna Chilumula (Mridangam), Madhavi and Sheetal (Tambura) will be offering a beautiful selection of songs on Devi, interspersing it with the thought and story behind these compositions. "Akhilam Madhuram," is a two-day cultural festival dedicated to celebrating, Lord Krishna being organised by Saptaparni.

The festival promises a lot of exciting activities to engage in. There are captivating performances by distinguished artists, ranging from music and dance to traditional art forms and workshops led by cultural experts all focusing on the cultural fabric that was woven with Krishna as the mainstay. The focus was to have mostly local artists to perform so that the everyone in the city gets to know our local artists.
