Turkey is a land of mosques. Straddling both Europe and Asia, Turkey is a melting pot of religion and culture through the many empires that called it home. Every city has its own piece of history. A story of its past and present... caught in the web of physical and ocelot ldealogical differences.
When the Ottomans conquered Constantinople, they started converting the Churches under the Byzantine empire to mosques and building new ones. Inspired by the Aya Sophia and the architectural style, all mosques in Turkey sport the dome(s) and minarets, and more often than note, the shade of blue.
Blue, implying the impenetrable depths of the universe.. but also possibly connected to the blue of the nazar, the Turkish people believe in. The nazar thingalings are everywhere!
There is a beauty in these buildings that makes you stop, look, and breathe. Inhale the often violence laden stories of their being.
If you let go of that and come into the now, you'll find a peace in the touristic chaos that trickles into your body.
