Guru Pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit ji.

The doyen of Gwalior Gharana gayaki, a man who breathes music, lives music, sings everyday, teaches music, embodies the gharana he represents.

In this modern world, with the onset of a changed format of music, the merging of all gharanas, the oppressive thirty second music reels, it is only artists like Pandit ji who make the world a beautiful place with their life long commitment to music. The purity of raag and taal. The essence of nad. The divinity of sound.

His daughter, Vidushi Meeta Pandit performs his music live on Sunday. We celebrate this living legend among us and the 90th year of Panditji as we perform on Sunday in his presence. Our naman to Guru Pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit ji and wishing him many more years of music.

Odisha Literary Festival 2024

I spoke at the Odisha Literary Festival in conversation with Ms Kaveree Bamzai on my subject for the last 15 years, yes, The Tawaifs and their contribution to the arts. I keep speaking at every platform, tirelessly. I may not write my research paper but I dance my research paper. Each performance of mine is a research paper that takes years to work.

Bollywood will strike again soon with its unthinkable budgets and titillating portrayal of women, till then we must keep a dialogue on, to know of actual women histories. So that, next time you will watch Bollywood, only for what it actually gives, a raunchy titillating entertainment and you will yourself dismiss their narrative of telling women's history.

Tawaif was an artiste, mujra was a performance art, kotha was a performance space, we need to redefine what patriarchy taught us, as an abuse to a certain gender.

These will be sung by Vidushi Meeta Pandit, daughter of Guru L K Pandit ji the doyen of Gwalior gharana gayaki, who was in the Darbar of the Rulers of Gwalior, The Scindias.

Manjari Chaturvedi presents songs and stories from the Gwalior Gharana, from the traditions of the Royal Courts. Songs that were actually sung in the Royal Darbars.

People don't believe in them, till one day it catches their fancy and suddenly everyone is an expert.

I am currently working on the Royal gharanas and their music traditions of India and doing the first concert in October at Habitat, New Delhi.

Women never wrote history, men did, ironically even women histories is written by men. The omnipresent male gaze through which we study women. Is that correct ? How do we decipher women narratives in the basence of women writings ?
This is much needed to discuss the portrayl of Tawaifs in Hindi Cinema, with teh recent distortion of women histories it becomes relevant that we talk and discuss this.
Cinema has a mass reach and any distorted fact gets seen and absorbed by a gullible audience.

2006. Seems another lifetime !
A series of concerts that Rekha Bhardwaj and I did together for this and for Doordarshan. This was after the release of her first album Ishqa Ishqa where I performed in the music video and that actually remains my only music video till date !

PS: because my studio got flooded during the rains and all cards and media stories got drenched and we slowly retrieved them as they dried, I am revisiting some really old work done by me.
