Moments of Presence: Part II

The fourth edition of The Independence Project was conceived as a curation of inward journeys - A reminder that in our time, the furthest distance we often travel is from our own inner being.

To be present is to return.
To return is to experience the quiet art of presence.

Moments of Presence: Part l

They gathered, sharing in moments of joy, reflection, and discovery.

Not in pursuit of grandeur, but of something far more essential: An encounter with the self.

To dwell in one’s own company, wholly present in the moment.

From circles of rhythm to dances of freedom, the final day was a burst of energy and expression.
Drums, music, and movement carried us through and the Sanjay Divecha Quartet closed the night on a high, with jazz that had everyone swaying.

*PRESENCE: A DRUM CIRCLE*

Led by *rhythm facilitator Jitesh Jain*, this expressive drum circle transforms rhythm into shared presence. As hands strike the drum and beats align, a pulse emerges—grounding, liberating, and alive.

*No musical skill is needed—just a willingness to feel, play, and connect*. In Jitesh's joyful, intuitive circles, conversation gives way to vibration, and individuals become part of something larger. Here, rhythm isn’t taught—it’s remembered. Each beat becomes an invitation into belonging, into synchrony, into presence that is loud, felt, and joyfully shared.

Beginning on the eve of India’s anniversary of independence, the fourth edition of The Independence Project unfolds from 14th to 17th August. It brings together movement, music, film, ceramics, storytelling, mobility, and more—exploring independence as the Quiet Art of Presence and Agency.

The performances that comprise The Independence Project are not protests, nor responses to current anxieties. They are not concerned with urgency or the velocity of the world outside. Rather, they offer refuge. They invite the possibility of stillness, of immersion, of gentle wonder. They are, above all, an exploration of presence—of what it means to be truly awake to the moment at hand.

The evening opens with a solo set by Sanjay Divecha, featuring music from his recently released album Leela—a contemplative and intimate introduction to the journey that follows.

STORIES THAT BREATHE

Led by filmmaker and storyteller Vishal Chaturvedi, this immersive workshop explores storytelling as a practice of presence. Through prompts, memory, and reflection, participants enter a slower rhythm—one that honours silence as much as speech.

Vishal’s gentle pacing and emotional resonance invite stories to unfold like breath—where meaning arises from tone, timing, and truth. It’s not about performance, but attention. As narratives surface, so do layers of self.

Known for films like Fauji 2 and Setu, Vishal holds space where story becomes reflection, and listening becomes a quiet act of seeing.
