Alia Bhatt looked breathtaking in a custom blue and red Ajrakh block-print sari accentuated by gold embroidery that was complemented by a blue drape in the Ajrakh worn over her shoulder.

The Ajrakh block print originated in the Indus Valley civilization which includes the Sindh region in present-day Pakistan.

An authentic Ajrakh starts with a kora unbleached cloth and can go up to 23 steps to become the final product, with 14-16 steps being the required minimum. The technique uses geometrical Ajrakh blocks carved by hand, along with vegetable dyes and Indigo is a key part of the printing process. Brands like péro have often incorporated this method into their designs, too.

On the occasion of Saree Day, we'd like to flaunt our team, draped in six yards of pure elegance, capturing the essence of diversity and strength!

The 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 is celebrated on 21st December every year. It was initiated in 2020 to honour the weaving communities and the unique art of sarees.
Originally started in 2009 by Nalini Shekar, a social activist, who wanted to revive sarees and maintain their legacy.

It is a great attempt to celebrate the diversity of India and showcase the versatility of the saree!

Panja Weave is a craft that resonates with the rich cultural heritage of Haryana. This traditional weaving technique has been passed down through generations, embodying the skilled craftsmanship and cultural significance of the local communities.

Panja weave is renowned for its durability and the ability to withstand the test of time. The fabrics produced through this technique are not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical for everyday use. It is not just a fabric, but a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Haryana and it's skilled artisans!

In the fourth post of our series Fabric Fables, we'll talk about Panchachuli Weave from Uttarakhand.

Nestled in the serene landscapes of the Kumaon region in Uttarakhand, India, the Panchachuli Weave stands as a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the Himalayas. Celebrating its intricate patterns and vibrant hues, this traditional weaving technique is championed by the Panchachuli Women Weavers Cooperative, founded in the year 1990.

The Cooperative was established to empower local women through weaving and promote traditional craftsmanship. The artistry and craftsmanship exhibited by the Panchachuli Women Weavers Cooperative not only reflects the beauty of the Himalayan heritage but also embodies the spirit of resilience and progress!

In the third post of our series Fabric Fables, we'll talk about Phulkari from Punjab.
Phulkari refers to the folk embroidery of the Punjab. Although Phulkari means floral work, the designs include not only flowers but also cover motifs and geometrical shapes.

The craft of Phulkari has undergone changes over the centuries. They were embroidered by the women for their own use and use of other family members and were not for sale in the market. Thus, it was purely a domestic art that not only satisfied their inner urge for creation but also brought color into day-to-day life. In a way, it was true folk art.
