We, Kings Kitchen Catering Services, are a food catering venture based in Mumbai that caters delicious, fresh and lip-smacking food all over Mumbai for various occasions and celebrations. Every year, during the holy month of Ramzan, Kings Kitchen hosts the Kings Kitchen Ramzan Feast – a pop-up restaurant that serves delectable Ramzan delicacies like Tikkas, Nihari, Tava Preparations, Raan and infamous Ramzan desserts like Firni and Malpua, in a hygienic, safe and ventilated space. Our Ramzan feast has been well received and loved dearly for the past five years and has changed the way street food is devoured in Mumbai. The spirit of Ramzan was always beaming through the deliciousness of each plate that left our kitchen, each bright smile that followed, each family that got together and enjoyed a hearty meal, each child that licked the earthen plate of Firni clean and each sentiment of gratitude and love we received every single day, for thirty days.

As we approached Ramzan this year, Mumbai faced a lockdown suddenly and unfortunately owing to COVID-19. We realized that what saddened us more than having to give up the idea of hosting the Kings Kitchen Ramzan Feast was the the plight of the poor. In the holy month that is all about love, food and togetherness, there are thousands of distraught, displaced, disappointed individuals in Mumbai who are far away from their home and loved ones, and are facing a dearth of basic needs like money and food. Without a second thought, we decided to gear up to do our bit – no matter how much or little – in a quest to make these individuals feel the presence of love and light in their life.
Kings Kitchen joined hands with Giants Group of Island City and The Lions International Club of East Bombay to generate food boxes for daily-wagers and the poor. Each of these food boxes contain a wholesome rice-based meal. Each day, we prepare a different, healthy preparation so that the meal does not seem monotonous to those who look forward to it. Choosing a unique preparation of vegetables, lentils, grains and dals each day, we prepare a hearty and healthy meal that is delicious and filling.

Over time, we reached out to our friends, families, customers and well-wishers to lend us a hand and in no time, generous donations started pouring in. With their help and wishes, we started generating almost twice as many meals we were organically producing.
Having conquered one base of distribution, we realized that orphans and slums were yet plagued with hunger and no helping hand. Without waiting for help, we decided to start producing additional food boxes and distributing them to orphanages and local slums ourselves. We welcomed an extra set of helping hands by absorbing women who needed money and safety into our work force. In safe and hygienic working conditions, we are cooking up, packaging and distributing close to 5000 food boxes in areas like Fort, Dockyard, Masjid Bunder, Transport Market Slums, Govandi, Mankut, Marol and other needy areas of North and South Mumbai.

Safety, of course, has always been our top priority – from preparation and packaging to distribution. We have taken stellar precautionary measures to ensure that our food boxes are distributed without a shred of exposure to the virus. Our workforce has tirelessly dedicated hours of their time to ensure our endeavour never loses its spirit.
We are transporting over 5000 meals each day by the means of scooters and ambulances to ensure that we feed the thousands of hungry stomachs that are stranded in remote areas of the city.

With the help of Allah’s blessings and monetary and moral help from our family, friends, colleagues and customers we are slowly and surely making our dream work.

Kings Kitchen has gone from being the kings of the Ramzan feast to becoming the kings of feeding hungry mouths. And, why not? In the holy month when Allah gives mercifully, kindly and generously, we are merely being an instrument to spread the spirit of Ramzan with kindness and love.

Food is the most basic need of the hour, and we are the home of fresh and healthy food, and you know what they say – charity begins at home.
In a collaborative effort with Giants Group of Island City and The Lions International Club of East Bombay – both charitable organizations – we decided to generate food boxes to be distributed to daily-wagers and the poor. Each box contains a wholesome meal.
In a matter of hours, messages were circulated, and hands were joined together. Team work makes the dream work – and it did. Donations started pouring in, and more and more mouths were fed.
Having established one base of production and distribution we realized that two sectors were still untouched – the orphans and the slums. Without waiting for a tie-up, we decided to up the ante ourselves and start distributing food boxes to an orphanage as well as local slums.
One problem yet prevailed – unemployment. We needed the extra set of helping hands. They needed the money. Amalgamating the two needs that together were capable of striking down hunger of thousands, we employed women who were willing to help us make this dream work, in exchange for money and of course, safety. In safe and hygienic working conditions we are cooking up, packaging and distrubuting thousands of food boxes to those who need them the most.
