Van Gogh dreamt of artists making paintings together, a dream that was never realised rather mocked as the ravings of a lunatic. Like the artist himself, the idea was far ahead of his time. However, in the twentieth century, co-creation was explored by many artistssuch as Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso and Gjon Mili, to name some well-known examples. But most of these collaborations are on the intellectual level, of sharing and building ideas together more than creating together. The Edge of Self for the first time tackles this organic dimension of co-creation.

In the words of Rumi "Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about." It is this field that Bonobithi and Lucas tread through their project The Edge of Self. Walking beyond the shackles of individual consciousness and rules of logic, this field holds endless silence. It is the field of the subconscious, where minds meet and converse through colours.

The modern solitary artist is a fairly recent phenomenon. In the West, one can trace it to the late Renaissance, and more succinctly to post- Baroque; in the East, even later.
However, the twentieth century, that era of innovation, witnessed a return to co-production on multiple fronts, from co-creations such as Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat to interdisciplinary collaborations such as Pablo Picasso and Gjon Mili, to name some well-known examples. It is heartening to note this return, however, going with the capitalistic trend, the commodification of art has successfully shifted the spotlight from the process to the product, thus pseudo-simplifying the relationship between artist, artwork and viewer. "The Edge of Self" with its organically collaborative approach re-examines and re-defines this relationship.

Discover Columbian artist Lucas Posada and Mumbai artist Bonobithi Biswas unveil an unique collaboration of unspoken words , emotions , thoughts brought into canvas jointly created by both. Together they have created 24 artworks , 16 of which will be showcased at Si Bambai .
This wonderful collaboration was the result of their residency at Kalakendra , Auroville .

Coming specially from Auroville, Lucas is thrilled to showcase his art and Bonobithi flying in straight from Bali from an art residency they have a live show of their art on Wednesday 17th May at 5 pm .

An unique exhibition born out of a residency at Kalakendra Art Gallery, Bharat Nivas, Auroville, an artist based out of Mumbai with renowned Columbian artist Lucas Posada (35+ years in the field)
This collaborative co-production project “The Edge of Self”, supported by Kalakendra, Auroville, the first phase of which was completed in February ‘23 with the creation of 26 large paintings acrylic on paper. It explores the domains of collective consciousness, a heretofore unprecedented experiment in the realm of artistic co-creation, revolutionary in both conception and output.

One of her earlier works, titled 3 AM , Vandana initially completed the work without the dog but felt something was missing . She added the dog as it added the drama to a city that never sleeps. At 3 AM when its deserted there is someone ruling the street.

The aha moment for this art came to Vandana when she was stuck in traffic. How cool it would be to jump out of the car and reach your destination. Upon reaching home she reached out to her oils. This painting was snapped up by a south Mumbai collector at her debut solo at Jehangir Art Gallery. According to him he said “ the painting spoke to him “
