Today, let's take a journey back to the origins of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, a cherished tradition often seen in North Indian weddings. As the groom eagerly approaches the door, he's greeted by the lively bridesmaids who stand guard, ready to initiate the age-old ritual of the ribbon cutting ceremony.

But before he can step into his happily ever after, there is a delightful exchange of banter and shagun negotiations with the spirited squad of bridesmaids! It's all in good fun as we blend tradition with laughter, making memories that will last a lifetime.

Adding a contemporary flair, today's ribbon cutting ceremony introduces ribbons adorned with playful texts like "No entry without tax"!

The ribbon text on the third image reads (in Punjabi), “Naaka Saaliya Da!” (Checkpoint of Sisters-in-law). The ideas was not to give entry without clearing the dues.

But beyond the laughter, this tradition holds deep historical significance. In the era of arranged marriages, where glimpses of the groom were scarce until the wedding day, this ceremony transcended mere shagun exchange. It served as a moment for bridesmaids and relatives to steal glances at the groom, sharing impressions and descriptions with the eagerly awaiting bride.

As we uphold this time-honoured custom, let's reflect on its roots – a celebration of connection and shared moments brimming with anticipation and joy.

In a world where trends come and go, there is something timeless about embracing our roots and traditions. Allow us to introduce , the bride who, from the outset of her wedding preparations, was resolute in making a distinct statement. With finesse, she struck a balance between the unconventional and the conventional, crafting a look that exuded both boldness and timelessness.

With a nod to her Punjabi heritage, Gaganpreet adorned her locks with a traditional Paranda, infusing her ensemble with a sense of regal splendour that captivated all who beheld her.

In , the paranda holds a special place in the traditional attire of women, particularly in rural areas. It is a colourful, decorative hair accessory typically worn by women to embellish their braids. Its origins trace back centuries, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes, aiding in hair maintenance while also adding a colourful flourish to attire.

Crafted from vibrant threads in hues of red, orange, yellow, and green, Punjabi Parandas are intricately braided and adorned with beads, sequins, and trinkets, reflecting the region's rich artistic traditions. The paranda is an integral part of Punjabi culture, especially during festive occasions such as weddings, festivals like Vaisakhi, and other celebrations.

Despite modernization and changing fashion trends, the paranda continues to be cherished in Punjab as a symbol of tradition, identity, and cultural pride. Beyond mere adornment, it stands as a testament to the region's heritage, preserving age-old craftsmanship for generations to come.

Discovering the hidden treasures of wedding rituals is like unravelling the layers of a cherished cultural tapestry. Amidst the whirlwind of planning 's wedding, revealed to us a not-so-known tradition: ‘Bangle Ceremony.’

While the chooda ceremony may command the gaze of many, within Punjab's regal lineage lies a trove of captivating secrets. This ritual, steeped in tradition, typically unfolds two to three weeks before the wedding day—a time of anticipation and preparation for the grand festivities to come.

The matriarchs of the house, joined by the bride-to-be’s sisters and friends, come together to adorn her with red and green glass bangles. These exquisite bangles symbolise the dawn of a new chapter in the bride’s life.

There is another layer, to this timeless tradition. On the wedding day, as the bride’s maternal uncle and aunt, bless her and doll her up with the chooda, she bequeaths her glass bangles to her u***d sisters and friends. It is a solemn rite of sisterly solidarity, a testament to the enduring bonds of kinship and tradition.

And the gleam of excitement in the eyes of the little cousins as they receive their glass bangles is truly a delightful sight to behold.

When discussions of Punjab's grand wedding traditions come up, let it be known that it's not just the Chooda that enchants the heart; it is the vibrant bangles too, each a luminous beacon of love, laughter, and royal sisterhood.

Keep an eye out to discover more traditions and cultural gems as we unveil them throughout our wedding preparations.
