Martial arts study and research are coming up in a big way as a fascinating discipline of study in many parts of the world. Although India is home to a variety of martial art practices since ancient times, neither the academia nor the governments, have taken serious measures to preserve the underlying theories inherent in these mind-body disciplines. Ancient Indian knowledge system formulated by martial arts is a treasure-trove for the holistic development of an individual. During the medieval period, in places represented by present day Kerala state, a complete life system based on Kalari, ayurveda, marma and Kalarippayattu existed. Although Kalarippayattu has become an exotic showpiece item for the foreign tourists of Kerala state it only lies in the hindmost part of the collective consciousness of the psyche of every Malayali. The case of Silambam and other martial arts in several parts of India is much worse. With the onslaught of globalisation and all the negative impacts of a lethargic and avarice lifestyle perpetrated by materialistic comforts, it is high time that we as a nation and a cultural entity look back to the past in a creative manner.
Kadathanad Kalari Vidyapeetam is imparting Kalari training and providing Kalari massage & Kalari Marma Vidya (kadathanadan as well as tulunadan); assistance in the study and research of Kalari and other Indian Martial Arts. We are also equipped to conduct classes on kalari and martial arts aesthetics, history and philosophy.
