It really is one of my favourite flowers…until they decide to drop that is, then it’s a constant sea of purple that needs sweeping up.
Following the flowers come the leaves and the triffid like tendrils that I swear would engulf you if you sat still long enough.

Another tree!!!
As many of you know we plant a tree for every guest booking we have at Casa Sant Elia.
This is the first of the guest trees to be planted this autumn It was a two family booking so they chose two trees, the other being a eucalyptus, which will be planted before next spring.
We really will remember the ‘tree’ family as we pick and eat the delicious figs, hopefully they’ll come back one day and enjoy them too.

It can’t be easy being a black cat in all this heat.
But as she’s Italian she copes better than we do!
Clearing the gravel garden has given her more lizard hunting space, but, she doesn’t kill them…just looks at them 😻, that’s our Pixie.
I can’t imagine what she’ll think of the weather in the U.K., I feel she’ll start growing a thick fluffy coat half way through the Channel tunnel!

We Didn’t Expect To Be Doing This Yesterday !!
After testing the sugar content of our Verdicchio grapes on Sunday, we had to harvest almost immediately.
No surprise really as it’s been so hot during the last eight weeks.
So pleased the ‘pickers’ from @casa_gialla were at hand to help…although it was an 05.30 wake up call!
The Best Time Of The Day….
…it’s too dark to work outside, so the perfect time to stop for an aperitivo!
The temperature has definitely dropped, and it won’t be too long before the blankets come out whilst sitting here under the gazebo.

What A Change In The Weather…
… but only for 24 hrs then hot, hot, hot again ☀️☀️☀️
We have grapes!
Bella and I had no intention of walking through the vines…you never know how many snakes we’ll imagine we’ve seen! So Ruby came to the rescue.
They really do look better than we could have ever hoped for. Our very next job has to be cutting through the long grass so that we can get the vines off the ground and up through their guide wires, I think we may have a good harvest this year…always the optimist ☺️
Another day of isolation…
…but we’re not complaining, we wouldn’t be anywhere else, we feel so lucky that we’ve actually made it to Italy.

A throw back to November 2019...
Little did we know then that our planting plan would be delayed, and for so long!
But now, with the hope of a vaccine we’ll soon be bringing Casa Sant Elia back to life again, and then our planting project can continue ... that’s between pruning the olives, vines, fruit trees and everything else that’s been growing like crazy during lockdown, even so we can’t wait.

Enormous flocks of birds preparing to migrate.
The noise was almost deafening as they swooped from tree to tree surrounding Casa Sant Elia, gathering up even more friends to join them on their journey.
