🔎 Italian automotive industry at a crossroads: challenges, innovations, and future directions
Gianmarco Giorda, General Director of ANFIA, illlustrated the current state of the Italian automotive supply chain at the Autopromotec Talk in Rome. He considered the big challenges and possible solutions for the future, especially when it comes to innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
📉 The Challenges:
➡️ European vehicle markets have shrunk by over 3.5 million units since 2019.
➡️ Italian vehicle production has decreased from 900,000 to 600,000 vehicles annually, impacting the supply chain.
➡️ Strict CO2 regulations limit technological options, focusing heavily on electric vehicles.
Meanwhile, Chinese manufacturers are entering Europe, which is increasing competition but also creating new opportunities for Italian suppliers.
💡 So, what are the opportunities for growth in the future? Giorda says we need more flexible regulations to include biofuels and synthetic fuels alongside electric vehicles. He also suggests internationalization, R&D investment, and partnerships as essential steps to stay competitive in the evolving automotive landscape.
