The Forthright Farmer 🌾👨‍🌾

Willi Kremer-Schillings, better known as Farmer Willi, isn't afraid to be 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 to start important conversations. 🌍🚜

🌾 In 1981, he obtained a PhD in plant production and later worked in industry. Now retired, Kremer-Schillings spends his time writing and educating on the subject of agriculture. In 2015, he rose to prominence in Germany with his 'Letter to Consumers', in which he lamented the lack of appreciation of farmers.

📊 The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) just shared the latest apple and pear production forecast, and fruit market trends in the EU and outside.

We've got 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 on the apple and pear market:
🍎 Predicted decrease in European apple production: WAPA forecasts a 10.2 million ton crop, the second lowest in a decade.

🇮🇹 Italy’s production is slightly down, with 2.162, a little a bit lower than 2023.

🇵🇱 Poland’s production, instead, is expected to drop by almost 20%.

🍏 The forecast for organic apple production in Europe is 195,000 tons, a 10% decrease from last year.

è l'evento annuale leader nel mondo per l'industria della frutta. Durante questa conferenza, la WAPA - The World Apple and Pear Association annuncia le previsioni di produzione di mele e pere, e si discutono le tendenze del mercato della frutta nell'Unione Europea e al di fuori di essa. La conferenza riunisce produttori, trasformatori e commercianti provenienti da vari paesi europei e oltre.

Quest'anno, è stata organizzata in Trentino da APOT - Associazione Produttori Ortofrutticoli Trentini insieme a WAPA - Associazione Mondiale Mele e Pere e Copa-Cogeca - Associazione delle Cooperative e dei Produttori agricoli Europei, con il supporto di Assomela Associazione Italiana Produttori di Mele Società Cooperativa e ha costituito un momento fondamentale di confronto per i produttori melicoli dell’Emisfero Nord per conoscere e commentare le previsioni di produzione di mele per la stagione 2023/2024.

🤓 a fully electric autonomous agricultural system!

☝️ Reduce your operating costs in the vineyards or orchards by at least three/four times in comparison to using a conventional tractor.

✔️ The Drum Mulcher is designed for chopping branches, grass and flowers.
✔️ The Lawn Mower consists of a highly maneuverable five-blade deck. It provides flexible and precise grass cutting.
✔️ The Power Harrow is two-knives ground cultivation system. it can w**d, shake and plow the soil between the root areas.
✔️ The Side Trimmer is an in-rows w**ding system for cleaning around the trunks in vineyards and fruit plantations.
✔️ The Sprayer works on slopes of up to a 42-degree angle.

On yesterday's opening eve the winners of the Award 2022 were presented. 🏆

The competition is organised in collaboration with the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the Italian Society for Horticultural Science (SOI) Società di Ortoflorofrutticoltura Italiana.

This year the Award is dedicated to technologies that optimize water management in apple orchards, allowing water savings and improving yield or fruit quality. 💧

👨🏼 Born and bred in the city of Bolzano, Walter Guerra climbed his first apple tree at his grandfather’s farm in the Ahrntal valley. ✨ His early tentative steps, if you will, in an impressive career.

From June to November, Walter Guerra takes a daily walk through Laimburg Research Centre’s experimental orchard and selects apples to try. 🍏
