This holiday season, explore Tuscany’s artisanal excellence and creativity in absolute comfort with Coave’s premium fleet. From Florence’s marbled paper and perfumes to the iconic straw hats, our region is brimming with unique treasures rooted in tradition. But this time, we take you to uncover the charm of a true Tuscan masterpiece: the Panno Casentino.

🌟 What is Panno Casentino?
The Panno Casentino is a time-honored Tuscan wool fabric with origins dating back centuries. Once prized by shepherds and outdoor workers for its durability against harsh weather, this "raw" wool became a staple for practicality. By the late 19th century, it transformed into an elegant and stylish material used for jackets, cloaks, and even horse covers.

👑 A Fabric of Historical Prestige
This distinctive fabric, with its vivid orange, green, and brown hues and unique curly texture, has been favored by historical icons such as Baron Bettino Ricasoli, Giuseppe Verdi, and Giacomo Puccini. Over time, it became a symbol of luxury, gracing the wardrobes of noblemen and wealthy landowners.

🌟 A Modern Renaissance
Today, Panno Casentino is experiencing a revival, with renewed interest from prestigious names like Gucci, who are incorporating it into luxury collections. Even King Charles III has a custom-made coat crafted from this exquisite Tuscan fabric.

📍 Let Coave Take You There
Immerse yourself in the legacy of this extraordinary fabric by visiting the enchanting towns of Stia and Soci, where the artistry of wool has been preserved for generations. With Coave, your journey will be as sophisticated and seamless as the fabric itself.

LEONARDO DA VINCI AND THE FLIGHT

Just a little over a 15-minute drive away, you'll find yourself in Fiesole, an enchanting town with ancient origins and breathtaking views of Florence. Less known to tourists is the view from Monte Ceceri: Despite its modest altitude of around 400 meters, Monte Ceceri was an important place of inspiration for Leonardo da Vinci when, around 1500, he was designing his largest flying machine: the "Great Kite."

It was on the slopes of Monte Ceceri that Leonardo observed the flight of birds, which inspired him. It’s said that here he tested his machine with his multifaceted friend Tommaso Masini, known as Zoroastro da Peretola, who piloted the contraption down the mountain—resulting in broken legs and a kind of perpetual glory.

Ask us to drive you there; it will be easy and comfortable with our fleet.

For those who love flowers and gardens, March and April are a must-visit for the blooming of camellias in the Lucchesia region.

Since the late 18th century, the European high bourgeoisie fell in love with the then-exotic Camellia Japonica, imported from the East, adorning villas, especially the royal villa of Marlia (a short drive from Lucca) - now listed among the 'Great Gardens of the World' and considered one of the most beautiful Historic Residences in Italy. The villa was long hosted by Elisa Baciocchi Bonaparte,

Napoleon's sister and princess of Lucca. With a short detour, you can still enjoy two more weekends in March at the traditional Exhibition of ancient camellias of Lucchesia in the ancient village of Sant'Andrea in Compito, where you'll also find a small production of Italian tea, derived from the Camellia sinensis. Ask us how, and we'll guide you comfortably along this flower-filled path in Tuscany
