Climate change is changing weddings, whether the wedding industry is ready for it or not.

We keep talking about the “wedding season” as if it’s fixed: May. June. July. Sunny skies. Outdoor ceremonies.
But some of the seasons we’ve traditionally considered perfect for weddings are becoming increasingly unpredictable, especially in Southern Europe.

So perhaps the question isn’t:
“How do we make summer weddings work?”
It’s:”Why are we still planning weddings around a climate that no longer exists?”

Maybe it’s time to rethink the wedding calendar.

Spring and autumn could become the new prime seasons. October could become as desirable as June. April could offer the outdoor experience we once expected from summer.

And winter? There’s an entire world of weddings we haven’t fully embraced yet.

The shift isn’t necessarily about compromising the experience.
It could actually make weddings better. More comfortable guests.
Better outdoor experiences.
More interesting light. Less dependence on air conditioning. More flexibility with venues. And destinations experienced in seasons that feel more authentic to them.

Maybe the future of destination weddings isn’t about finding the perfect weather.
Maybe it’s about learning to plan with the weather we actually have.

Do you know what we think, after spending so much time in this industry and watching it slowly change into something we barely recognize?

The chatter around a dining table.
That’s what we care about.

Because the reason you fly somewhere else, spend a fortune, and create something beautiful isn’t just to have a beautiful wedding.

It’s for this.

The conversations that go on too long.
The people laughing until they can’t breathe.
The stories being told across the table.
The tears. The chaos. The little moments no one planned.

Pretty matters. Of course it does.

But if everything looks perfect and nobody is actually present, talking, laughing, crying, connecting, then what are we doing all of this for?

I think somewhere along the way, we started designing weddings for the camera instead of for the people sitting around the table.

And honestly?
We’d choose the chatter every single time.

And yet, so many “Italian weddings” are designed by covering all of that up with massive floral installations, custom-built stages and layers of production.

Sometimes the most Italian thing you can do is leave Italy alone.

Let the place do the talking. 🇮🇹

There’s something about wedding speeches that I think we sometimes underestimate.

After the flowers are gone.
After the table settings have been packed away.
After you’ve stopped looking at the photos and remembering how beautiful everything looked…

you’ll remember what your father said to you.

The words your mother struggled to get through.
The story your best friend told that made everyone laugh.
The things you didn’t expect to hear from the people who know you best.

Because the beautiful things create the setting.

But the words become the memory.

So yes, make the room beautiful. Make the tables beautiful. Make it all feel like a dream.

But leave space for the people you love to tell you what you’ll carry with you long after the wedding is over.

Italy isn’t a theme. It’s a collection of cultures.

One thing we wish more destination couples knew is that Italy isn’t one destination, it’s 20 regions, each with its own identity.

Every region has its own cuisine, wines, traditions, architecture, dialects, craftsmanship, and way of celebrating.

That’s why we always encourage couples to ask themselves: How can our wedding reflect this place?

If you’re getting married in Tuscany, let Tuscany inspire the experience. Serve local wines, celebrate regional traditions, and embrace the landscape that has existed for centuries.

If you’re on the Amalfi Coast, then yes, limoncello makes perfect sense. But serving it as a wedding favor in Tuscany is a little like giving guests maple syrup at a wedding in Provence. It’s delicious, but it belongs somewhere else.

The same goes for your venue.

Historic villas, medieval villages, and ancient piazzas have a character that can’t be recreated. Before covering them with giant stages, LED walls, imported décor, or building a temporary ballroom, ask yourself:

Are we adding to this place, or asking it to become something it isn’t?

Luxury and authenticity are not opposites.

In Italy, the greatest luxury is experiencing a place exactly as it is.

Because the moments your guests will remember most probably won’t be the custom-built dance floor.

They’ll remember the old men playing cards in the piazza, the grandmother watching from her balcony, the family-run bar that knows everyone’s name, children playing football until midnight, church bells echoing through the streets, and conversations that spill into the square long after dinner has ended.

Don’t just get married in Italy.

Let Italy be Italy. 🇮🇹

We’re seeing weddings stripped back more than ever.
Less florals. More drapery. Fewer decorative elements. Softer, more relaxed tablescapes.

And honestly? We love it.

But somewhere along the way, lighting seems to have become optional.

Here’s the problem: your guests aren’t just looking at your reception for five minutes. They’re sitting there for an hour and a half. That’s where conversations happen. That’s where speeches are given. That’s where people laugh, cry, toast, and make memories.

If they can’t read the menu, see the person giving a speech, or even recognize the faces across the table once the sun goes down, you’ve stripped away something far more important than décor.

Especially in historic Italian venues, where outdoor lighting is rarely enough on its own.
