Ever heard of the parachute valve in a hot air balloon? This clever feature plays a vital role in controlling the balloon's altitude.

The parachute top has an opening in the crown, along with a circular panel that can be opened and closed. Just like a parachute, it’s rigged with lines! During flight, it helps vent a limited amount of hot air, allowing the pilot to fine-tune their ascent or descent.

And here’s a fun part: after landing, the pilot pulls the top line of the parachute top to keep it open, helping to deflate the envelope completely. Talk about teamwork between pilot and balloon!
