TIPPING in ITALY and how to handle it at your wedding!👇️
Tipping culture is also relevant for destination weddings. Although it is not mandatory to tip in Italy, vendors are always happy to receive a tip, as this means appreciation for their work. The big question seems to be, who do you need to tip and when do you need to tip?
All vendors can be tipped. Generally, you tip catering staff, chauffeurs, venue staff, hair stylists, makeup artists, photographers, DJs or bands, wedding planners, and other vendors.
Tipping costs can vary from each vendor.
For example, typically chauffeurs, hair stylists, and makeup artists are tipped around 20 to 50 euros. DJs or bands are tipped around 50 to 100 euros. For the overall catering staff, they can be tipped around 200/400 euros (depending on how big your event is). Photographers and videographers can get anywhere between 100 and 300 eur. Tipping for wedding planners is up to you to decide!
Again, you are not obliged to tip in Italy, so amounts are totally up to you.
When should vendors be tipped? Typically, vendors are tipped when their service is completed. For example, makeup artists should be tipped after they have finished everybody’s makeup.
In general, tips are a sign of appreciation to the vendors that you have enjoyed on your wedding day. These vendors spend time ensuring that your big days run as smoothly as possible. You should consider this while planning for your wedding day as tipping is at the couple’s discretion.
