L’avvio di un dialogo fra il Briitish Museum di Londra e il governo di Atene in merito alla restituzione dei marmi del fregio del Partenone, trafugati oltre duecento anni fa da Lord Elging, è una buona notizia. La via maestra da seguire è quella tracciata nei mesi scorsi dalla Sicilia, che ha fatto da apripista in questa direzione, quando abbiamo riportato in Grecia un importantissimo frammento del fregio di Fidia, il cosiddetto “Frammento Fagan”, che dopo secoli è stato finalmente ricongiunto all’opera d’arte da cui era stato strappato ed è ora esposto al Museo dell’Acropoli.
Quanto fatto dalla Sicilia sia da esempio per il Regno Unito e per gli altri Paesi che ancora detengono parti del fregio ateniese. La risoluzione di questa controversia secolare fra Londra e Atene potrà avvenire, proprio seguendo il metodo che abbiamo portato avanti con il Museo Archeologico Regionale "Antonino Salinas": attuando una collaborazione reciproca, con scambi fra musei e comuni iniziative culturali fra noi e la Grecia. È un metodo che ha portato risultati in tempi rapidi e che è stato anche sollecitato – proprio riferendosi all’esempio siciliano – nel corso della riunione Unesco tenutasi lo scorso mese di maggio a Parigi.
In tempi difficili come questi in cui viviamo, fatti di guerre e incertezza, la cooperazione fra Nazioni è importantissima per costruire quell’Europa dei Popoli e della Cultura che è ancora molto lontana, ma che è da auspicare, per un futuro in cui identità, storia e tradizioni non siano motivo di divisione, ma serbatoio di contenuti culturali e di valori da offrire al mondo secondo una nuova prospettiva nazionale ed europea.
