This poem was chosen by a family for me to read at a recent funeral. I’d not come across it before and think it’s a lovely farewell, especially for those, like me, who are fond of a train journey for reflection…

Last Journey
by Timothy Coote

There is a train at the station
With a seat reserved just for me
I’m excited about its destination
As I’ve heard it sets you free.

The trials and tribulations
The pain and stress we breathe
Don’t exist where I am going
Only happiness, I believe.

I hope that you will be there
To wish me on my way
It’s not a journey you can join in
It’s not your time today.

There’ll be many destinations
Some are happy, some are sad
Each one a brief reminder
Of the great times that we’ve had.

Many friends I know are waiting
Who took an earlier train
To greet and reassure me
That nothing has really changed.

We’ll take the time together
To catch up on the past
To build a new beginning
One that will always last.

One day you’ll take your journey
On the train just like me
And I promise that I’ll be there
At the station and you will see:

That life is just a journey
Enriched by those you meet
No-one can take that from you
It’s always yours to keep.

But now as no seat is vacant
You will have to muddle through
Make sure you fulfil your ambitions
As you know I’ll be watching you.

And if there’s an occasion
To mention who you knew
Speak kindly of that person
As one day it will be you.

Now I can’t except this ending
And as it’s time for me to leave
Please make haste to the reception
To enjoy my drinks, they’re free!

My last wedding of 2024 was blooming beautiful! It featured oodles of divine flowers bursting with autumn colours and a beautifully handmade orange bridal gown - and fortunately I had shoes to match!

Kayleigh and Tom also did a special sandpouring instead of exchanging rings as they became Mr and Mrs Hathaway with family and friends at Chateau la Chaire.

Dreamy blues for my penultimate wedding of 2024. The sun shone and St Brelade’s Bay was a perfect back drop on such a lovely October day. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Isherwood! 💙

Groom Fab and best dog Finn 🩷 The boys arrived in style and special guests included the local goats! Such a stunning location with amazing views across St Ouen’s bay and perfect weather for Mr and Mrs Amy. Flower lover Pip made the arrangements and local flower confetti herself and friends sang/played guitar and took the photos before everyone headed off to party at Le Catel Fort.

Sam and Libby lucked out with the weather today! They chose 14th September - which would have been Libby’s grandma Betty’s 90th birthday - as it’s always sunny on her birthday. Betty was certainly looking over them!

It was a gorgeous bare footed ceremony for all on the beach. One friend sang, another did the flowers, another read a personal story and another wrote and read a poem and their final song, Is This Love by Bob Marley, was Libby’s parent’s down the aisle song. A beautiful wedding and a perfect day for it but I forgot my phone 🤦🏼‍♀️ so can’t show you just how lovely it was, yet!

Wild outside but cosy inside! Family and friends from the UK joined Chris and Andrea with Jersey Heritage for their wedding day. Bride and groom are staying in the tower and the main area works perfectly for wedding/celebrating/eating/living/sleeping quarters. Andrea’s mum Sheila and Aunty Val raised a toast on comfy chairs while others braved the stairs and the elements for a wind sweeping confetti throw! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Cook 🥂!

This weekend’s hand-crafted wedding was one of many firsts… the first legal wedding at L'Auberge Du Nord Pub and Restaurant, the first with a gorgeous teal bridal gown and the first to incorporate a Jewish ‘breaking of the glass’ to wish the married couple well. Little 6 month Ari was perfectly placed in first position on the top of the head table too! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Willow👰🏼‍♀️🤵🏼‍♂️

“Everything. And everything else!” Is how Tony and Helen describe one another. It was love at first sight when they met by chance last year at an art studio in Hexham one day. Believing they were destined to meet and so happy and grateful for having done so, bride and groom shared a very special commitment ceremony with their children and Jersey friends.
