Long Bay Street Gala was first staged in 2002. It began as a part of the Governor Generals initiative which invites communities to hold a home coming event under the theme "hands across Jamaica". The gala provides an opportunity for individuals to sell locally produced goods and services to individuals from home and abroad. Each year the number continues to grow with over 5000 patrons. Its a calen
dar event for local communities and people in the diaspora. The evening of excellence and the float parade are an integral part of the gala. The evening of excellence usually takes place the last saturday in july where the gala king and gala queen are selected. They are judged by a panel of judges on a talent piece. Knowledge of current affairs, general knowledge, cultural awareness congeniality and etiquette. These contestants are assisted with training in all the areas listed. The float parade is very spectacular and competitive. Communities via for the best float and top prize. Floats route are from Long Bay to port Antonio and back during the day`s activities patrons are serenaded with the best cultural, gospel and reggae artist.
