JOURNEY TO THE BAOBABS returns for its second edition, taking place at The Twisted Fig Stage on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of August. Featuring a strong line up of Coastal, Nairobian and South African artists, playing only the most cutting edge Afro-House, Afro-tech and 3-Step sounds!

✨DECOR TEAM SPOTLIGHT✨

“Whispers of Freedom” by Hekaya Collective ( )

Hekaya Collective is a diverse group of creative minds based in Kilifi, Kenya. Their installation is inspired by the Baobab tree and is designed to stimulate introspection, foster positive communication and address societal challenges in Kenya.

“Wheels of Sonder” by Flower Maina & Genoh Sayankah (.flower_ & )
This installation invites the audience to process and visualize the meaning/philosophy of sonder. The audience interacts with the piece by rotating one of the bike wheels, which brings the piece to life by triggering a chain effect to the rest of the wheels, setting them all in rotation.

“The Indigo Room” by Hellen Masido ( )
Hellen Masido (Sido) is a multidisciplinary artist who writes, makes movies and paints. This installation was featured both in 2023 and 20224. The Indigo Room features large fabrics of tie dye as well as blankets of hand-painted prints, Kuba inspired pride flags (not featured in 2024), as well as a mixed-media fabric artwork. These pieces are dedicated to Field Marshal Muthoni wa Kirima.

The Kenyan Originals Stage was designed by Bakhita, a multidisciplinary artist working in Kenya. Through their visual art and conceptual designs, Bakhita creates and expresses their Afro-Surrealist universes that are inspired by traditional and African design aesthetics.

Bakhita’s design concept was ultimately to showcase the brand in the most sustainable yet color-immersive way. It consisted of various multifunctional art installations that served for both Decor and special function as well as showcased imaginative takes on how Kenyan Originals merchandise can be repurposed.

Artists who supported Bakhita in the build included (1st assistant who collaborated on the design and build for the Recycling Bin installation) as well as Ashley and

A #Kilifornia New Years Summer

Kilifi New Year is a contemporary African alternative and electronic Music Festival held under the stars and in the shade of thousand-year-old Baobabs in Kilifi town on the coast of Kenya from 30th December 2019 to 2nd January 2020.

Set on 20 acres of the pristine lush plateau of Beneath the Baobabs, home to secret wild orange and lemon orchards, bamboo forests, in the upper reaches of Takaungu Creek on the Indian Ocean, Kilifi New Year is a melting pot of global cultures, a brilliant source of inspiration and a haven for freedom of expression, with a strong commitment to conscious living and sustainability.

Kilifi New Year melds creativity with nature, to convey the connection we have with one another, with our environment and our community. The festival culminates with the burning of a large wooden sculpture symbolizing new beginnings and our shared optimism for a brighter future bringing together the community of Kilifi and festival goers for a moving spectacle.

Kilifi New Year 2020 comes backs home full circle by featuring 50+ acts from all across East Africa and the outer-world. This year, ticket Prices for East African Citizens are reduces to increase accessibility for East Africans and the local Kilifi Community.
