Bumula Member of Parliament, Jack Wanami, threatened to table a motion advocating for the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for gross misconduct.
Speaking on Monday, January 2, Wanami accused Gachagua of failing to unite the country despite the presidency being a symbol of national unity.
The lawmaker argued that since Gachagua assumed office as the second in command, he had only advanced the interests of the Mt Kenya region.
"Every time that man opens his mouth, you wonder whether he is the Deputy President of Kenya or he is the Deputy President of the Mt Kenya region," Wanami stated
"At some point, I will bring a motion in Parliament to impeach you," he added.
The lawmaker, an ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, also accused Gachagua of sustained attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Wanami, elected on Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP) party ticket, maintained that Gachagua violated Article 131 of the Constitution, stipulating, "The President is a symbol of national unity."
His sentiments came days after another section of Azimio lawmakers alleged that Gachagua had sidelined other parts of the country.
The Azimio legislators, drawn from Western Kenya, argued that Gachagua had overstepped his mandate by attempting to micromanage Nairobi County affairs.
Led by Busia woman representative, Catherine Omanyo, the legislators lashed out at Gachagua, faulting him for neglecting his duties as assigned by President William Ruto.
"Why is Gachagua only talking and defending his community? He should be reminded that he's not a regional deputy president," Omanyo stated.
On the other hand, a section of Mt Kenya MPs threatened to impeach Nairobi governor , Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of disobeying the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and its leadership.
“Sakaja should know that the deputy president is not his age mate and so should be careful when he is addressing
