Illicit brews, drugs and substance abuse are a threat to the family unit and by extension, to the country's National Security.

The trajectory in proliferation and consumption of illicit brews and substance abuse is immensely and negatively impacting realisation of our Plan of transforming the lives of our people.

Today, the Government, with the guidance of President William Samoei Ruto, has taken measures with far-reaching implications to end this menace.

We are determined to fully implement these shortterm, midterm and longterm measures because it is the surest way we can restore dignity to our people and the nation.
It, therefore, does not matter what it takes. It is the right thing to do.

We have a big problem in Mount Kenya, where our future generation is consuming poisonous drinks and substances.

I urged the women and community to pour the illicit brew whenever they came across it, and I also urged our children to stop taking the illicit brews. The illicit substances enrich a few people, while others fall into poverty and die, leaving families with a lot of pain.

I reminded the youth that they were a blessed generation, and God had a great plan for their lives.

We have held similar medical camps in Embu, Nairobi, Mombasa, Bomet, and Kisii Counties. The camps are a precursor for the rehabilitation of men from alcohol, drugs, and substances.

We must win the fight against illicit brews, drugs, and substance abuse to save our generation.

And for this war to succeed and be sustained, there must be proper legal frameworks.

This morning, at the Official Residence in Karen, I had an engagement with Members of County Assembly of Nyandarua, who shared the new Nyandarua County Alcoholic Drinks Act, 2023 they have enacted to provide structural support to ending illicit brew in the devolved unit.

Alongside Governor Badilisha Kiarie, who has assented the Bill into law, the leaders have displayed immense courage and determination in true service to the people by enacting a people-centred legal framework regulating manufacturing, distribution and sale of alcohol.

The new law is an outcome of the collective efforts between the national and county leadership. We look forward to intensifying these efforts for the enactment of similar laws in the region and across the country.

President William Ruto and the entire government congratulate the honourable members for heeding our call to save our youth from imminent destruction.
