Hi to all musician friends,
the call for artists for Tallinn Music Week 2025 is still open until 7th November.
I program two stages ('Africa NOW' for music from Africa and the diaspora + 'Cindy&Kate' a showcase for Baltic artists) but there are many more amazing stages welcoming all genres.

The 17th "festival for tomorrow's music arts and ideas", Tallinn Music Week takes place on 3 – 6 April 2025. TMW welcomes artists from every genre across the globe to apply for a chance to play at one of the most acclaimed international music discovery festivals in Europe.

During TMW around 175 artists from various genres and scenes from all over Europe and beyond in Tallinn’s best venues play to an audience of around 15,000 people and to 1,000 music industry professionals from international markets and Baltic-Nordic region.

All artists/artist collective members and their representatives will also get a TMW PRO Pass that enables participation in both the TMW music festival and conference that includes the artist education programme of workshops and mentoring sessions.

Looking forward to our Sicilian friends Quartetto Areasud performing today in Liepaja at 18.00 at Rose Square / 18.00 Rožu laukumā.

Quartetto Areasud was born for fun and recreation to perform traditional music mainly related to the southern Italian and Sicilian cultures, not to mention that these territories are at the heart of the Mediterranean, a great “soup” in which the musical ingredients are cooked, with people who share a similar fate and tradition.

The four musicians come from the well-known groups of world music such as Nakaira and Oi Dipnoi, with the union of folk-singer Maurizio Cuzzocrea, who built his fortune over the years by participating in major festivals in Italy.

Although the instruments used exclusively a traditional origin and sought in the selection of the best builders, the performance of the songs is not strictly philological, but leaves room for personal interpretation and therefore the process of permanent settlement and re-creation that is characteristic of the music of oral tradition, for a rich repertoire of tarantella, in which the protagonist is friscalettu (the typical small Sicilian cane-flute, left by the ancient Greek culture), alongside chants, and serenades that tell stories through sounds and native languages of a piece of history and musicians who left a strong mark in Sicily before them.

Well, I let the cat out of the bag - we have moved to Sicily, are working on a very exciting new project here, and in the future will be living between here and the Baltics!

We look forward to seeing our friends Laima and for four shows on the Island in a few weeks!
A few more artists are lined up for April and May, more to be confirmed.

We'll be back in Latvia and Estonia from the end of March to mid-April and look forward to Tallinn Music Week where we will be hosting TMW 2024: Africa NOW! on Thursday 4th April and TMW 2024: Cindy & Kate on Friday 5th April.
The team of Cindy&Kate will be meeting in Tallinn and public announcements about this project supported by the Nordisk Kulturfond will be made afterwards.

22-25 May will be the turn of Sicily Music Conference, this year adding Catania to Palermo. One of the focus subjects will be 'art residencies' and we can't wait to meet the speakers and stakeholders to brainstorm about ideas.

Ukraiņu pasaules mūzikas grupa “DakhaBrakha” muzicē jau no 2004. gada un klausītājiem Latvijā ir labi pazīstama un iemīļota. “DakhaBrakha” mūzikā ukraiņu folkloras un teātra mantojums saplūst ar mūsdienu kultūras pulsu, iedvesmojot uz kulturālu un māksliniecisku atbrīvošanos. “DakhaBrakha” savu mūziku sauc par “etno haosu”, jo ietekmējušies arī no pankroka. Viņi dzied par dažādām tēmām - par savu identitāti, sieviešu pašapziņu, par mīlestību, kas ir būtiska daļa no pārmaiņām. Plašāka publika grupas mūziku atpazīs pēc dziesmas “Baby”. Šobrīd “DakhaBrakha” mūzika ir arī emocionālā spēka avots kā Ukrainas cilvēkiem, tā viņu atbalstītājiem. Šī gada 26. maijā “DakhaBrakha” Liepājas koncertzālē Lielais Dzintars uzstāsies pirmo reizi.
