In 2011 UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Wise Music Society is bringing the International Jazz Day to Latvia, uniting most of the active jazz musicians, venues, schools, high schools and listeners in order to celebrate freedom, creativity and - above all - jazz.

Tradition is good, that’s why yesterday we decided to continue one we established last year - of sending greetings to our team member Aleksandra Line, who couldn’t be with us on that day, because someone had to represent Latvian jazz at the jazzahead!😃

Celebrating the International Jazz Day Latvia with three amazing appearances! 🌟
I’ll start the evening at at 19:00 in a concert of songs that maestro wrote for this theatre 🌟 Then, at the speed of light (with the help of a taxi) I’ll fly to my most favorite place in Riga, , to perform with amazing Artis Orubs and Artjoms Sarvi at 21:00; after that we’ll all have a nice, huge jam session! 🌟
And if you want to stay in but still want to enjoy some jazz, turn on at 21:05 to hear a preview of an album we recorded with - «Tales of that old familiar feeling»! ❤️ Happy International Jazz Day! 🎉🎉🎉

Aprīļa beigās džeza žanru godina visās pasaules valstīs: 30. aprīlī notiek Starptautiskā Džeza diena. Arī Latvijā to svin jau desmito gadu pēc kārtas, šoreiz svinībām sākoties jau 27. aprīlī – džeza koncerti un improvizācijas vakari notiks Rīgā, Vecāķos, Dobelē un Liepājā, kā arī Latvijas Radio 3 viļņos.

“No Dienvidamerikas līdz Centrālai Āfrikai, no Eiropas līdz Āzijai – cilvēki un iestādes mobilizējas, lai izrādītu savu solidaritāti ar Starptautisko Džeza dienu un tās galveno vēstījumu – cerību. Neskatoties uz daudzām grūtībām, ko joprojām izjūt daudzi cilvēki viscaur pasaulei, mūsu spēja vienoties raisa optimismu: esmu drošs, ka ar mūziku un atklātu, cieņpilnu dialogu mēs varam pārvarēt jebkuras grūtības. Paldies arī Latvijai par ilggadēju atbalstu Starptautiskajai Džeza dienai”, – saka UNESCO Starptautiskā dialoga labās gribas vēstnesis Herbijs Henkoks.

UNESCO International #JazzDayLatvia

In 2011 UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. Nowadays Latvian musical environment offers wide range of possibilities for developing qualitative product and bringing it to the world market. There are many high level jazz genre professionals and enthusiasts, jazz community is evolving.

The aim of the International Jazz Day Latvia is to show the rich variety and colors of jazz genre in the country as well as give the country and musicians an opportunity to become a part of the international jazz movement. The Jazz Day is brought to Latvia by Wise Music Society, uniting many active jazz musicians and composers, venues, educational institutions, and listeners in order to celebrate freedom, creativity and - above all - jazz.

During the previous 6 years 101 event has been organized to celebrate the Jazz Day in our country, and 2020 will become the seventh year of celebrating International Jazz Day in Latvia.
