On June 15th, we celebrated International Working Animals Day, honouring the incredible contribution of animals like mules, donkeys, and horses across the globe.

We salute the mules and donkeys of Morocco’s High Atlas — true unsung heroes of the September 2023 earthquake. When roads crumbled and villages were cut off, they carried not just loads, but hope: relief supplies, emergency aid, and even people — helping communities reach safety and support.

These animals showed quiet strength and unshakable service in Morocco’s darkest hours. Now, back to their everyday lives in Morocco’s fields, villages, and mountains, they continue to carry more than loads — they help carry communities.

Shopping in the souks of Taroudant is a rich and colourful experience—but it can be tricky to know what’s authentic, what’s fairly priced, and where to go.

For a small price, our guided shopping trips offer peace of mind and a more enriching experience. With Said or Nordine by your side, you’ll learn how to spot authentic items like spices, argan oil, saffron, honey, silver, and handmade crafts — and discover small, tucked-away places you might not find on your own. It’s not about buying more — it’s about feeling informed, supported, and connected to the local culture.

Witness the magical transformation of our pool and gardens.

Four years ago, our gardens were full of potential—waiting to blossom into the lush, vibrant oasis it is today. Thanks to dedication, sustainable care, and a deep love for nature, they’ve flourished beautifully. Our chlorine-free pool has also become a serene retreat for guests seeking peace and connection with the natural world. From budding greenery to a thriving paradise, our Garden Ecolodge continues to grow with heart and eco-conscious care 💚

Exciting New Sustainable Water and Energy Projects for Morocco by 2030.

As announced by the Moroccan government on 20th May 2025, we are excited to share the ambitious plans to re-engineer critical national infrastructure by 2030, providing both renewable energy (primarily solar, with some wind) and water.

Key Features
• Four major seawater desalination facilities, including a 350-million-cubic-metre plant, which will supply the Souss Valley, Morocco’s leading fruit and vegetable region.

• A colossal 1,400-kilometer high-voltage (3,000 megawatt) transmission corridor to transfer electricity the Western Sahara to Casablanca.

• In addition, it will provide 25,000 employment opportunities through construction and operation, with 10,000 permanent positions after commissioning.

Join us at our innovative Garden Ecolodge for immersive cultural experiences that support local communities.

We support a wide variety of community projects. Amongst these is the women’s cooperative making Argan oil. Traditional preparation of Argan Oil by Berber women was a very labour-intensive affair with low production yield. However, Argan oil co-operatives, like the one we collaborate with and visit with our guests in the Anti-Atlas Mountains, have made a real difference. There is a creche; the women love working together; marketing and packaging are taken care of, and they have equipment they couldn’t otherwise have access to.

This has allowed the co-operative and many like it to increase productivity, bringing much-needed income to the co-operative and families of the region. More importantly, it has empowered the women by offering them a sustainable living wage and financial independence.

The benefits of Argan oil include being rich in Vitamin E, with nearly twice the content of olive oil, and, being packed with antioxidants, it fights free radicals and conditions your skin, hair, and nails.

Our Story

For 22 years we ran our successful guest house from a “normal” house. In 2020 we were so proud to open our stunning innovative ecolodge set in an acre of permaculture gardens with a 19 metre long pool in a superb position by the town walls and yet close to the souks. The design marries traditional wisdom and beautiful architecture with modern eco-design.

Excellent English-speaking Moroccan staff who provide excellent food (special dietary needs catered for) and offer a wide variety of insights into culture and the environment.

High quality transport, drivers and guides who make your holiday really special - we craft group holidays with special themes such as singing, dancing, yoga, wildlife, art, crafts.........

We support several charitable causes including projects we set up ourselves (women’s embroidery; soap-making ; beekeeping ; an experimental bee-friendly orchard; a water trough for working animals; tortoise conservation) and projects run by others (orphanage; School for the Blind; street children; conservation of an endangered bee; an environmental association; the local Rotary Club; various individuals and schools in need)
