Concours dāElegance is not easily translated into the English language, which is why the original French moniker has stuck. Broadly translated it means Competition of Elegance.
Concours dāElegances have become increasingly popular over the last few decades and most people would be forgiven for imagining them to be a relatively modern invention. But this is not the case. In the 1930ās, cars were not simply a convenience, but for the lucky few, a statement.
Manufacturers of luxury cars made special exotic bodies for their special exotic customers. And to showcase these beauties, Concours dāElegances arrived on the scene. Today, these events feature the best classic cars, often with a sprinkling of new concept cars. Guests dress up to emulate the Golden Age.
Almost without exception, they are held in beautiful places, often on a golf course, and increasingly at stately homes. One of the longest running and best known is the yearly event at the Villa dāEste on Lake Como in northern Italy.
The Villa dāEste is a large and glorious building in the Italianesque baroque style. The Concours is hugely popular, and if you are lucky enough to get a ticket, it will cost 600 euros.
Although on a smaller scale, the Villa Bologna in Malta is every bit as beautiful. Once inside the gates, you could be forgiven for thinking that you are at the heart of Tuscany. The second edition of the Concours dāElegance & Garden Party gives guests an opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable occasion.
Dress the part and enjoy the party!
