A series of eighteenth-century graffiti may be clearly seen on the bottom second-floor wall. These were done when the original sixteenth-century lodge was being enlarged to include an upper storey. Most of the graffiti represent galleys which swarmed the Birgu harbour when Malta was occupied by the Knights of St John. One other graffito represents some sort of game.

How cosy is this? Wine & Platters in our underground cavern. Or perhaps a wine tasting session with our Sommelier.

These subterranean rooms date from the 16th century and were primarily excavated to build the overground house using the same extracted pieces of stone. These old walls can be clearly seen in two of our breakfast rooms.

We present you with 'Jean 1557' .. our honeymoon suite with a bathtub inside the room.

It is named after de la Valette who bravely fought the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The oldest parts of our property date back to before the Siege. However it is documented that most dwellings in our city were actually destroyed before the Siege to protect the city of Vittoriosa.

'Goat gates' are metre high barriers in front of the doors of traditional Maltese houses. Their main purpose was to stop goats from entering these houses when doors are left open. These gates are made of decorative wrought iron with brass top.
