Malta Boxing Association Congratulates Elton Azzopardi on Stellar Performance in Italy

Last Friday, October 20, 2023, Maltese boxing rising sensation Elton Azzopardi showcased his unwavering talent on the international stage, competing at the 'Palasport' in Guidonia Montecelio, Lazio, Italy. This thrilling bout, sanctioned by the Federazione Pugilistica Italiana, was promoted by the renowned Mario Loreni and Matchmaker Graziano Loreni, with the entire event broadcast on Italy's esteemed Sports Channel, RaiSport.

In this exciting encounter, Elton Azzopardi, weighing in at 76.4kg, demonstrated his prowess against his Italian counterpart, Matteo Gubinelli, who weighed in at 76.2kg. Azzopardi, the pride of Malta, boasted a record of two professional boxing draws from two previous contests, both within the Super Middleweight weight limit. Meanwhile, the Italian fighter, Gubinelli, brought a noteworthy record of 6 wins, 1 draw, and 0 losses to the ring.

In the end, the Italian fighter secured victory on points, and it was indeed a thrilling and closely fought battle.

Commenting on this remarkable display of sportsmanship, the President of the Malta Boxing Association (MBA) stated, "Myself personally and on behalf of the Malta Boxing Association Board of Officers, we would like to congratulate Elton for a very hard-fought contest. Competing against this level of fighters is a true testament to the exemplary attitude towards competition within the sport of boxing."

On behalf of the board at the Malta Boxing Association, we are deeply saddened to receive the news of Pertti Augustin’s passing. It is indeed a great loss for the boxing community, as he was a dedicated and respected figure in the sport.

Pertti’s contributions to boxing in Europe and around the world were truly remarkable. His unwavering commitment and passion for the sport were evident in his tireless efforts to promote and uplift boxing. He was always there to offer his wisdom, guidance, and support whenever called upon.

His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Pertti’s legacy will continue to inspire and motivate future generations of boxers, trainers, and enthusiasts.

To retain the belt, the champion must successfully defend their title against three different challengers. Once the champion has successfully defended their title three times, they are allowed to keep the belt permanently.

The Association is a *private* organization of an associative nature, and is constituted of boxers and fighters participating in boxing tournaments and title fights in accordance with the respective boxing regulations as promulgates by the international boxing associations such as the World Boxing Council and the European Boxing Union and the Association conducts its affairs in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Statute and those other relevant rules, bye-laws, and regulations which the Executive Committee of the Association may approve from time to time, as well as in accordance with the relevant rules, bye-laws, and regulations of those International Boxing Associations or Federations of which the Association may be a member.
