Have you ever heard of the term 'Fairy Fever'? Well, my family is definitely suffering from it! With a Cornish husband and two daughters, I guess it's no surprise 😄

'Fairy fever was a craze that lasted for over 50 years in the United Kingdom, with its peak occurring around the time the Flower Fairies emerged in 1923. During the years 1920 to 1925, more than 350 fairy books were published in the UK!'

Yesterday, I lost a stunning mixed lot by the British artist Enid Sybil Mills (1901-1985). (I've attached two out of the several works that were up for auction.)

Enid was known for producing elaborate and fantastical fairy scenes, inspired by the Art Nouveau style of illustrators like Arthur Rackham (1867-1939).

For those interested in this topic, I highly recommend reading: https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20230915-when-britain-was-gripped-by-fairy-mania.ticle/20230915-when-britain-was-gripped-by-fairy-mania

I have a passion for what I do. Every art object, whether it's a piece of furniture, painting, sculpture, print or any other art form, that I interact with leaves a lasting impact on me.

It's hard to say if I'm the one consuming the art or if the art is consuming me! It satiates my hunger for knowledge and pleasure, leaving me completely indulged.

I love to engage with the object, learn from it and what I love even more is to be transported to the time frame when the art piece was created.

Each time I encounter a new object, I discover a little more about myself. Music, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to transport me to that period. Recently, I had the privilege of working on a beautiful Impressionist work, and while looking for some background music, I stumbled upon this great article...

French Impressionism may well be the most popular artistic style in the world. Even people who know little of art delight in the way painters like Monet and Renoir depicted everyday life and the play of light in shimmering colors. Impressionist music, on the

Some of my research brought me to read this fantastic article exploring the relationship between climate change and art. I was particularly amused by the following:
..scholars from Greece and other countries suggested in a 2014 study that the colours of sunsets painted by famous artists can be used to estimate pollution levels in the Earth's atmosphere for the past five centuries. "Nature speaks to the hearts and souls of great artists," said researcher Christos Zerefos, professor of Atmospheric Physics at the Academy of Athens in Greece, when the research was published. "But we have found that, when colouring sunsets, it is the way their brains perceive greens and reds that contains important environmental information."...

Hey friends! It's been a long time since I posted here, but it's been insanely busy. A big chunk of our stock has flown out, and I'm in between valuations and new consignments arriving before Christmas.

I might have to post-dump some awesome content to compensate for the radio silence! x 🤪 But first...this cutie says HI from here.

✋🤯STOP and think before you chuck it!!! PLEASE!

This is not the first time I’ve been in this position, but now, I just can’t take it anymore! I nearly never find the time to post things on social media but I’m hoping this might make a difference if it’s out there..

I was going about my business when I spotted a refuse skip right outside the famed Ballutta Buildings in Sliema, full to the brim with all sorts of stuff. I managed to salvage 3 pelmets and vast quantities of mahogany timber.

As I was excavating away, the owner of said skip/interiors, an elderly lady, stopped to ask me what I was doing and why.

In brief, I walked her through the materials and construction techniques of what was salvageable, told her their value and what it would cost if she had to have such objects made today out of solid wood- mahogany no less.. she almost burst into tears and told me that she spoke to several dealers and no one was interested in them, giving her the impression that they had no value.

I found dusty foot prints all over the butchered furnishings, which I was told consisted of a large Victorian mahogany sideboard, several art deco interior pieces and other furnishings.

How sad that we live in a world where laminate and ply wood (not discrediting it as a material!) are more in favour and therefore, more expensive, than solid wood, something that in itself has the potential to withstand the test of time and is where the true value lies.

How sad, that we live in a world that favours machine made objects over the hand crafted.

How sad that this lack of knowledge is so rampant, even among so called experts in the field.

How sad, that we destroy in seconds what has taken a long while to be created.

How sad that we don’t favour a culture of reusing, of being sustainable or giving items away, free of charge, if we are no longer attached to them.

Please, take a stand, and if you don’t understand, just call us on 9998 4494 with any queries you might have.

I’m convinced that every great piece of art, contemporary or antique, radiates a special energy of its own.

Today, seeing these gorgeous pieces leave this space, has left a bit of a vacuum both literally (in the space) and metaphorically (on my psyche)… the only consolation I have is to take comfort in knowing that they're joining wonderful and important collections!
