The executive committee of Taste of Playa would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the sponsors, volunteers, restaurants, bars, suppliers and guests who have contributed to the success of the event since its inception in 2009. We have appreciated your participation and support. We would also like to thank the Rotary Club for facilitating Taste of Playa’s donations over the years to local nonprofit food and water programs.

It is with both pride and heavy hearts for the committee to announce that Taste of Playa’s 5th year anniversary celebrated on November 24th, 2013 was its final year.

Taste of Playa has celebrated 5 consecutive years, each year drawing thousands of local and international visitors to the seaside location of Parque Fundadores in Playa del Carmen. We have been honored to showcase as many as 40 restaurants and beverage purveyors annually, highlighting the unique culinary perspectives of local chefs and venues to the visiting public.

It has been an extremely rewarding experience and our pleasure to have supported the community with an event that promoted local restaurants and area businesses. We are very proud of the success of Taste of Playa and we each look forward to pursuing new projects in the future.

It is our sincerest hope that you have enjoyed the event as much as we have.

Al comité ejecutivo de Taste of Playa le gustaría aprovechar esta oportunidad para agradecer a todos los patrocinadores, voluntarios, restaurantes, bares, proveedores e invitados que han contribuido al éxito del evento desde su creación en 2009 . Hemos apreciado su participación y apoyo. También nos gustaría dar las gracias al Club Rotario para facilitar las donaciones de Taste of Playa en los últimos años a los programas locales de comida y agua sin fines de lucro.

Es con orgullo y algo de nostalgia para el comité, anunciar que el quinto aniversario Taste of Playa que se celebró el 24 de Noviembre 2013 fue su año final.

Taste of Playa celebró 5 años consecutivos, cada año atrajo a miles de visitantes nacionales e internacionales a la zona de costa del Parque Fundadores de Playa del Carmen. Hemos tenido el honor de mostrar un máximo de 40 restaurantes y proveedores de bebidas cada año, destacando las perspectivas culinarias únicas de chefs locales para el público visitante.

Ha sido una experiencia muy gratificante y un placer haber apoyado a la comunidad con un evento que promueve los restaurantes locales y las empresas de la zona. Estamos muy orgullosos del éxito de Taste of Playa y cada uno de nosotros esperamos con interés la incursión en nuevos proyectos en el futuro.

Es nuestra sincera esperanza de que hayan disfrutado el evento tanto como nosotros.

DID YOU KNOW?

In 2002, archaeologists found an earthenware bowl containing the world's oldest known noodles, measured to roughly 4000 years BP through radiocarbon dating, at the Lajia archaeological site along the Yellow River in China. The noodles were found well-preserved. They were described as resembling the traditional lamian noodle of China, which is made by "repeatedly pulling and stretching the dough by hand." The composition of the oldest noodles was studied by a team of Chinese researchers, who determined the noodles were made from foxtail millet and broomcorn millet. The earliest written record of noodles is found in a book dated to the Eastern Han period (206-220 AD) of China. Noodles, often made from wheat dough, became a staple food for people of the Han Dynasty. In Tang Dynasty, the noodles were first cut into strips, and in Yuan Dynasty, the making of dried noodles began. It is also noted that the Chinese presented Marco Polo with noodles during his exploration.
