Something we loved from last night's beautiful vow-renewal ceremony in Juarez Park:

"We are all a little weird and life's a little weird. When we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love."

Dr. Seuss

“No long-term marriage is made easily, and there have been times when I've been so angry or so hurt that I thought my love would never recover. And then, in the midst of near despair, something has happened beneath the surface. A bright little flashing fish of hope has flicked silver fins and the water is bright and suddenly I am returned to a state of love again — till next time. I've learned that there will always be a next time, and that I will submerge in darkness and misery, but that I won't stay submerged. And each time something has been learned under the waters; something has been gained; and a new kind of love has grown. The best I can ask for is that this love, which has been built on countless failures, will continue to grow. I can say no more than that this is mystery, and gift, and that somehow or other, through grace, our failures can be redeemed and blessed.”

Vonnegut: The secret ingredient in my books is, there has never been a villain

Thx, Gary Welsh

After three years in the infantry during World War II, Kurt Vonnegut landed at the University of Chicago as a graduate student in anthropology. It didn't go particularly well. His thesis was rejected. Twice. The future novelist had more success as a cub reporter at the fabled City News Bureau, which…

Your Ideal Wedding Officiant

From Rev. Carolyn Studer San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, is one of the most beautiful and beloved cities in the world. I fell in love with it a year ago. The food is amazing, the people are kind, and the year-round festivals, including the popular “Day of the Dead,” are spectacular. I can’t think of a happier place to be. It’s no wonder that so many couples come to San Miguel de Allende to get married or renew their marriage vows. It’s a romantic and magic place and I’m blessed to be part of it.

If you are considering getting married or renewing your vows in San Miguel de Allende, I will help you to create your ideal wedding or vow-renewal ceremony. I am an inclusive minister and celebrate all marriages. Since my ordination in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), I have officiated at the weddings of couples from a variety of faith traditions. I have enjoyed creating religious ceremonies as well as non-religious ceremonies for couples who don’t identify with a religious tradition. The location for your wedding is up to you. There are many wonderful venues for weddings In San Miguel de Allende -- churches, parks, and private homes. One of the most popular places for weddings is the Jardin, our beautiful town square.

Juarez Park is another popular venue for weddings.

In addition to officiating, I will provide you with a list of the best restaurants and hotels in San Miguel de Allende and suggest activities, including day tours, that will entertain you and your guests while you are here. If you are planning a big, formal wedding, I work with a terrific wedding planner who will be able to meet all of your needs. Please contact me if you have questions. I’d be delighted to explore your options with you. In the meantime, all my best to you as you begin this exciting new chapter of your life. Rev. Carolyn Studer
