What participants are saying about Mexican Culture 205:

"Some friends and I attended Michelle' s excellent overview of Mexican Culture (and how it differs from the North American, or United States culture) and after living in San Miguel for eleven years, I now finally understand many important things about our different world views. Michelle is a lively, charismatic teacher who presents her topics in ways you will not quickly forget. The entire coours is a great value. You will learn more than you thought you would and be better able to deal with life in San Miguel." Cheers, Heather Hanley

"I will second what my classmate Heather wrote. The class not only sheds a lot of light on Mexican culture, but overlaps with other Latin cultures and even helps us understand better how we Gringos think. It was an enlightening experience and could have gone on for hours and days more as far as I'm concerned."
-Michael Moore

"Let me make unanimous the applause for the Mexican Culture class just completed yesterday with Michelle Garrison. My career was teaching, so my requirements are more demanding than average when sitting in a class. Michelle knows how to bring alive information with first hand examples. In her case they are funny, vivid and experiential from her time living here, and from her own learng process in adapting to the Mexican culture. Experience is multi sensory, and when she teaches using this experiential approach, it is easier to remember. The classes were several hours long, and never for a moment boring. I think she is a born teacher. I would attend any class she offers."

My next door neighbours (not the cock-fighters, the ones on the other side) are having a giant bday party with a live band. I have to yell out Luca's bedtime story and turn on his noise machine so he can sleep.

I want to be mad that they blocked my garage with cars but im not actually going anywhere and i want to mad that the volume is reverberating through my entire home, but the music is really good with banjos and the singers are great. 🙄

I will have to put my volume up super loud and watch Netflix... or listen to their party all night... or choose not to listen, as Mexicans do. 😁😅

I was going to go to Candelaria, but I've seen so many posts and videos about it here that I feel like I already went. My attendance would be redundant and useless.

Hmmm what would you do...
My neighbours have been gone the last 2 days and their chicks are flying one by one from their rooftop to my carport. It started with 3 and this morning we are at 18. 😳

My dogs got 1. Still alive but won't move much. 😪

I asked our neighbour on the other side what I should do with them, and he said "caldo" (broth). 🙄

I'm feeding them oats and flaxseed. I don't have a phone number for my cock-fighting neighbours who own them.

Auxilio!

Ever want to feel like you're at home in Seattle again?
I know. I do, too. That's when we stop into STARBUCKS San Miguel on Hidalgo/Canal for that familiar scent of heavenly roasted coffee beans.

San Miguel is very strict about businesses in the historic downtown blending in seamlessly with the 18th century energy of this area.

Local photographer, Javier & Waldorf daughter, Lucia, like to do homework together in the stunning historic patio.

What do you think? Does Starbucks belong in our historic center if it is respecting the Patrimony of Culture rules? Or do you prefer that only small local businesses be allowed?
