China’s women’s singles shuttler Chen Yu Fei who was the Olympic champion, entered the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022 finals, after beating Taiwanese player Tai Tzu Ying on 9 July.

Chen Yu Fei will meet Korean player An Se Young in the finals. Chen Yu Fei had met An Se Young 7 times in matches and An Se Young was defeated with a big margin.

Korean women’s singles player An Se Young advanced to the semifinals after beating Thai player Ratchanok Intanon, who is the Malaysia Open 2022 women’s singles champion, in the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022 on 8 July.

An Se Young will meet Indonesian player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the semifinals.

National women’s doubles pair Tan Pearly-Thinaah Muralitharan exacted revenge for their second-round loss last month in the Indonesia Open at the hands of Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota by eliminating them, the former World No. 1 Japanese pair, in the second-round of the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022 on 7 July.

Tan Pearly-Thinaah Muralitharan will meet young Indonesian pair Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, the champion of Malaysia Open 2022 women’s doubles, in the quarter-finals. They were defeated by this Indonesian pair in the Indonesia Open semifinals last month.

National veteran shuttler Liew Daren did not go far in the PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022 as he was knocked out in the 1st round on 6 July, after losing to Hong Kong men’s singles player Ng Ka Long.

34-year-old Liew Daren also faced the early exits after the 1st round last week in Malaysia Open, last month in Indonesia Open and Indonesia Masters. Frankly speaking, he was knocked out in the 1st round in 4 matches consecutively.

In the qualifying round of PERODUA Malaysia Masters 2022 on 5 July, national men’s singles players Ng Tze Yong, Leong Jun Hao and Soong Joo Ven advanced to the main draw.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s top shuttler, Ng Tze Yong made it to the opening round after he defeated compatriot, Yeoh Seng Zoe.

Leong Jun Hao, ranked 130th best in the world, created not 1 but 2 upsets against higher-ranked players, after beating professional shuttler, Cheam June Wei and Badminton Asia Championships 2022 bronze medallist, Weng Hong Yang.

Another professional player, Soong Joo Ven overcame young national shuttler, Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin and Victor Svendsen of Denmark in the qualifying round.

Thai women’s singles Ratchanok Intanon advanced to the finals, after defeating China’s women’s singles Wang Zhi Yi in the semifinals of PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2022 on 2 July.

She had collected 4 victories in Malaysia and hopes to win the championship in Malaysia again in the finals on 3 July. She will meet the reigning Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei for the final battle.

Taiwanese shuttler Tai Tzu Ying beat Indian ace PV Sindhu again and advanced to the semifinals. The match between them is the most striking match in the quarter-finals of PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2022 women’s singles on 1 July.

Tai Tzu Ying extended her domination over PV Sindhu, leading 16-5 on the head-to-head record. PV Sindhu has now lost 6 matches on the trot against Tai Tzu Ying.

In 2021, PV Sindhu failed to defend her women’s singles BWF World Championships title, losing to Tai Tzu Ying in straight games in the quarter-finals in Huelva, Spain.

National mixed doubles pairs Chen Tang Jie-Valeree Siow and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai were defeated in the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2022 on 30 June. This stated that Malaysia mixed doubles ended the journey of Malaysia Open 2022.

The World No. 1 China mixed doubles pair Zheng Si Wei- Huang Ya Qiong was too strong to be defeated by national young mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Valeree Siow.

“Our tactical skills and communication are not enough. Hopefully we can do better in the next games,” they said.
