KOMBEEWAGEN - About Us

Founded in 2015 by Steven Chong and wife, the idea of KOMBEE WAGEN stemmed from Chong’s interest in vintage vehicles, specifically Volkswagen Kombi and Vespa models. His acquired his first Kombi in 2013 with the purpose of restoring it as the vehicle for his own wedding. The two-year restoration process turned what was essentially a piece of metal junk into “Buttercup” — a beautiful photo-worthy and road-safe yellow Kombi that Chong then used as the main vehicle for his wedding in 2015.

Inspired by the attention and feedback received over his restored 35-year old “Buttercup”, and not wanting the car to sit idly in the garage post-wedding, Chong and his wife decided to launch the KOMBEEBooth in 2015 — a first-of-its-kind Kombi photobooth, allowing people to not only take photos of the beautiful vintage vehicle, but also to capture fun and special moments within the Kombi itself, in addition to letting fellow vintage car and Kombi enthusiasts to appreciate the workmanship of the vehicle restoration details.

“Buttercup”, along with the Kombee Wagen team, has since graced various weddings across Malaysia with their unique instant photobooths, been featured in numerous private and commercial events (including official Volkswagen Malaysia roadshows and launches), as well as made appearances in various third-party film and photoshoots. From prom nights to birthday parties, grand openings to cancer awareness events, the Kombee Wagen team is always eager to play a part in making it a memorable day for everyone.
