Our GOH tried to visit each and every booths of 104 exhibiting companies, however visiting hours was over and we did no manage to visit few more and do accept our apologies for that.

Meeting Dr. Kenneth Pereira at his esteemed office in Bangsar, thanks to Ts. Anwarudin Saidu Mohamed's arrangement, was truly a privilege. Dr. Kenneth Gerard Pereira, the Founder and Managing Director of Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, spearheaded its listing on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia on July 25, 2011. With 33 years of extensive experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, Dr. Kenneth has made significant contributions in both the services and exploration and production sectors.

I am indebted to SPE-KLS, an organization headed by Ts Anwaruddin himself, in collaboration with Midas Events Management, for their efforts in organizing programs for young professionals (Next Gen Energy Leader) and secondary school students (Energy4Me) in tandem with SOGCE. Our discussion with Dr. Ken revolved around SPE-KLS's involvement in SOGCE, exploring opportunities for Hibiscus Petroleum's participation.

Additionally, we extended a personal invitation to Dr. Ken to join us as a Special Guest speaker for the session "In conversation with Iconoclast - The New Horizon: A Comprehensive Outlook towards Energy Transition," to be moderated by Anwar.

This session aims to facilitate an honest and pragmatic discussion about the future of energy within the context of Energy Transition, renewable, and the industry's responsibilities to the economy, public, and the environment. Key points of discussion include the transformation of the industry, challenging mainstream narratives, and dispelling misconceptions about Hydrocarbon business as a sunset industry.

The discussion will also address the holistic positioning of the industry in a sustainable landscape, covering aspects such as branding, communication, ecosystem, and the role of government agencies. Various aspects of renewable and alternative energy sources, Malaysia's aspirations through the Malaysia National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the diversification of energy sources will be explored.

Furthermore, the session will highlight the commitment needed from both the industry and governments globally to make the Oil & Gas industry cleaner and more efficient. It emphasizes that the global consensus indicates an expansion of energy sources to support national growth and the eradication of energy poverty, enabling livelihoods and living conditions.

Dr Ken will be joined by Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh, Executive Director Legal & Commercial, SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd.

UAMS 4 - 6 March 2024

Taking part in the recent UAMS, Upstream Asset Management Summit, organised by MPM, PETRONAS in collaboration with SPE-KLS, at Shang-Ri La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu, proved to be a valuable experience, fostering connections with like-minded professionals who share common interests. Good to meet some familiar faces and made new connections as well.

We extend our appreciation to Ts. Anwarudin Saidu Mohamed , Chairman of SPE-KLS, for graciously offering us the opportunity to showcase SOGCE2024 at the SPE-KLS booth.
