Honouring traditions. In the Malaysian Chinese culture, newlyweds serve tea at the wedding tea ceremony to the elders in the family as a sign of respect. At the same time the elders are addressed by their family titles, and henceforth, they are officially welcomed into the family.

Now about the tea, in case one is not aware, it’s not Chinese tea. It’s tea made of red dates, dried longan and lotus seed. Red dates symbolizes bliss, dried longan - wholeness and lotus seed - fertility.
