Mental health is a person’s ability to cope with life’s challenges, work productively, reach their potential and contribute to the community. Mental health, alongside physical health and social well-being are all components to a person’s overall health, and if not given proper care and attention will eventually lead to more serious issues such as depression at work or not being able to cope with daily activities.

In the past, most organizations would likely chalk up mental health as a “personal matter” to be handled by employees themselves, rather than give it serious attention. Today, however, mental health in the workplace is gaining the attention it rightfully deserves as it has been proven to have a major effect on our people’s performance at work.

1. Good mental health awareness helps our people cope with challenges at work
a. We face all sorts of challenges at work on a daily basis, from clients to technical issues.
b. With good mental health awareness in the office, our people are able to cope with these issues without breaking down easily.
c. They may even accept these challenges and use them as learning opportunities to improve themselves.

2. Mental health awareness helps prevent productivity and teamwork from faltering.
a. Without proper mental health awareness, our employees may find themselves burnt out or tired at work.
b. As a result, their productivity begins to take a slow but sure drop over time.
c. Burnt-out employees may even have negative feelings about their job and colleagues, which leads to more problems in the long run.

3. Helps us recognize, express, and regulate our emotions
a. When people are stressed, they may not be able to express their emotions properly.
b. They may accidentally hurt others with their actions, words and responses.
c. If our people have an understanding of positive mental health at work, they can recognize and express their emotions in a proper manner.
d. Similarly, they can also help their colleagues and teammates with their emotions too.

4. Improve our people’s overall health.
a. As mentioned earlier, if we do not take care of our mental health it may lead to serious issues such as depression at work.
b. Mental issues can also indirectly lead to health problems such as cancer or heart diseases as well.
c. Because of this, proper mental health awareness is key to ensure our employees are always healthy, both physically and mentally.

A lack of mental health awareness is not only harmful to our people as individuals, but also our organization as a whole. Thus, now is the time for us to start taking mental health awareness into serious consideration for the benefit of everyone in the workplace.

Continuous talent development through employee coaching

Many business owners are still in the stage of recovery from the covid incident, and this incident has also changed the business landscape so much that its as if we are recovering from a world war..

The new world today needs a new set of knowledge to grow our company, and our people will need to acquire these set of knowledge very quickly.

So, how to help our people to gain these skills as quickly as we need? Training is very effective when come to technical subjects, when trainees are suppose to listen, learn and practice as close as they are being thought. However, when come to non technical learning, the best outcome will happen when the trainees understood and agree “why” they want to do what they are tasks to do, “how” can they do that in the best way they can be, instead of “what” they will get end of the day.
