Kelulut (stingless bees). It has been 2months since I started my stingless bees little project. The most important factor is to ensure there is enough food for the stingless bees. I have the “air mata pengantin” flowers (antigonon leptopus) around the fence near the stingless bees homes. They just love these pink flowers. I have started planting Japanese roses and sunflowers too, hopefully they will like feasting on these flowers too. The garden is simply a wonderful open lab to carry out experiments. There is still so much for me to learn about these hardworking bees. Today, we harvested a full cup of fresh honey (250ml). The taste is simply exquisite!!

It was a cold day when I went to the Waterstones bookstore at Ealing Broadway in January to look for a book for my storytelling session at the RLC Children’s Library. Perhaps, influenced by some snow in London early January and remnants of Christmas decorations at the mall, I picked “The Frost Goblin” by Abi Elphinstone & Fiona Woodstock.

I felt a bit nervous before the storytelling session because goblins are not a familiar subject among Malaysian children. They are probably used to reading books with fairies, wizards, witches and unicorns but goblins🤔. I thought it would also be challenging to “bring” the children to a cold winter night setting especially when Malaysia is currently experiencing hotter than usual weather 🥵.

The biggest challenge I thought would be to have the children’s attention for one hour. This is the most lengthy book 📖 I have selected for a storytelling session😅.

However, this turned out to be the best storytelling session that captivated the attention of children aged 3 to 12, their parents and a few grandparents too. It was a real honour for me to have the children glued to their seats for 1hour!!!

The children “followed” Bertie Crash-Wallop of 33 Muddle Lane to No 35, a house which had been “For Sale” for a long time and its garden was a jungle of weeds and brambles (as written in the book). It was dark and cold…Bertie heard a sniff, a hmmmmm and the sound of someone whispering “Yes, tonight is the night”. Bertie was starting to feel afraid..and so were the children at the library🫣..in the next few moments he saw something of the size of a child with large pointed ears, bulbous nose and hairy feet (as written in the storybook)

I just love the story and illustrations. Goblins apparently like to eat chocolate fudge. I didn’t have a cauldron to stir chocolate fudge like Mrs Frostgobble, so I brought a pot and wooden spoon instead and gave away my version of the goblins’ chocolate fudge. The children and parents definitely enjoyed the chocolates.

Today was spent at Waterstones looking for new books for my young readers and audience. Can’t wait to read the books, so I spent some time chilling at , a Japanese patisserie with clean lines minimalist interior design. I was in awe with the food & beverage presentation and attention to details. Simple yet classy. With soothing piped music, I can just read my book and be absorbed into the magical night..with The Frost Goblin❄️

We never doubt the children’s creativity and imagination 🤩

The children were given ice cream sticks (can be purchased at craft stores) and they had to use as many sticks as possible within a specified time.

The teamwork and results..simply amazing!! 🥳

Thank you for inviting me to another storytelling session.

I had lots of fun reading Stories of Pirates written by Russell Punter. The young readers were listening attentively and actively participating in the interactive storytelling session.

Chapter 1, which was about Charlie Crossbone and his pesky parrot was hilarious. At the end of Chapter 1, kids opened the treasure box and they were so happy to see lots of gold coins!!

This book has three chapters altogether and it was great to see the kids’ enthusiasm! From steering the ship to looking for treasure…kids have the best imagination 😊

A good 10km ride this morning. As a storyteller, I tell stories sincerely and honestly with a dash of mystery and excitement. As I was cycling, the music 🎶 for my next storytelling session played in my mind. Last night, I was going through the music to suit the emotions in the story. I slept with a smile😊

I had a wonderful morning with very attentive and interactive children at the Children’s Library @ the Royal Lake Club.

Today’s story is about Pyro, The Elephant Whisperer. With the right background music, props and interaction, I felt that the children and I were transported to the Kuala Selangor Firefly sanctuary in the middle of the night, onto a sampan 🚣‍♂️🌛

I enjoyed the storytelling session
as the kids were so awesome; by the end of the story they were able to name me all the characters. They even remembered Pyro’s favourite food which are snails, nuts, fruits and flowers.

Thank you for having me at the library and I hope to go on more book 📖 adventures 📚

Auntie Ellene was at the MEM stable today. It was a beautiful morning to ride at the arena.

The office building of the Malaysian Equine Council has a rustic charm, the “White House”. It was refreshing to spend the morning with horses.

We’re definitely excited to welcome children who have registered to the fun & interactive session with horses on 29 August 2023 (Tuesday), 8.30am to 1pm @ Majlis Ekuin Malaysia (MEM) stable in MAEPS.

This time last year was hectic. I was anxious and excited at the same time as my youngest son was taking a big leap to further his education in US. My son was accepted to Columbia University and Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. It was a tough decision to make. Eventually, he decided to make his way to Columbia University in the City of New York.

I remember listening to Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York 🎶 everyday in the weeks leading to our departure to NYC 😂. It was exciting for the family too as there was Family Orientation which was meant to help the students transition to Columbia.

We will never forget 27th to 28th of August last year. We really had a great time in campus💙

Time flies..I didn’t even have time to blog about my time in NYC. Anyway, this year, 29 August, I will be doing what I love too, which is to organise interactive activities for children.

Horses are strong & beautiful! They look majestic when they trot and amazingly muscular when they gallop. When you get to know them up close, you will discover that they are amazingly gentle❤️

Join us for an interactive session with horses on 29 August 2023, Tuesday 8.30am to 1pm @ Majlis Ekuin Malaysia stable in MAEPS Serdang where your children will have hands on experience in caring for horses and learn how the stable is managed. They will also learn the equipment needed for riding and how to prepare the horses for riding. It will definitely be a busy and fun time at the stable! PM for more information.

We’re happy to announce that once again, we will be collaborating with the Malaysian Equine Council to provide a fun & interactive time with horses!! The programme held in Dec 2019 (pre-covid) was super fun and educational. Let’s spend some time outdoors without gadgets and get up close with horses under the guidance of experienced coaches.

I haven’t been in the garden much. It has been almost two months. Partly because I was away learning new things, catching up on my HSK Level 5 Mandarin and also because I was patiently waiting for a new addition to my garden to make it more sustainable after getting some inspiration from my visit to the New York Botanical Garden last year. 水 ~ shui ~ water and fishes & water lilies were in the picture painted in my mind, living in a wonderful ecosystem in the pond. So calming, I can almost hear the water flowing from the spout of a small pool of water, just like a “waterfall”. As a storyteller, I would like to tell a happy story of my garden. Work is still in progress. I am hopeful that the ending of the water story will be a beautiful one 🐠 💦 While waiting for the 水的故事water story to finish, I am happy to see the return of the passion fruit flowers after a nasty attack by snails 🐌 in Dec 2022. There are also new plants in the planter box after the thorny agave plants were removed. 💚

Day 5 of Kebun Rumah project. I’ve become like a kid. Waiting excitedly for the next day😜

We’ve done the Bottle Garden activity with children so many times over the past 10years. However, this is the 1st attempt to sow seeds. A simple model of a volcano. You will need a cup cut in the middle. The mouth of the cup will be the base of the mountain and the base of the cup will be the “crater”. Fill up the cup with two tablespoons of baking soda and in a small container place some vinegar with orange food colouring. Pour the vinegar into the volcano and watch the volcanic eruption. To avoid “lava” flowing and having a catastrophe in the living room, kitchen etc..contain the volcano in a rectangular container. Don’t forget to keep pictures and books on volcanoes with you. Your children will definitely enjoy an interactive storytelling session! Oh yes, add brown coloured playdough and build up the sides of the volcano if you have the time.
