In the 11th International Vocal Open Competition 2024, the contestants can showcase their talents in 8 categories ranging from Opera, Art Song, Folk Songs, Pop Song, Children Song, Contemporary A Ca****la, Choral to Musical Theatre.

The contestants who achieve the Third-Class Award or higher (80 marks or above) in the preliminary rounds will have the chance to compete in the International Final in Malaysia coming January 2024!

这次第11届国际声乐公开赛里, 选手们可以在歌剧、艺术歌曲、民歌、流行歌曲、儿歌、現代阿卡貝拉、合唱、音乐剧等8个类别中一展才华。类别/组别和曲目的各种选择也使每位参赛者能够根据自己独特的优势和音乐风格调整自己的表演。

所有在选拔赛获得三獎以上 （80%以上）的參賽選⼿將獲得進⼊⾺來西亞決賽資格。决赛将于 2024 年 1 月在马来西亚举行！

Mencipta Sejarah dengan tiga pertandingan antarabangsa by HOM Music - Berita RTM!

First time ever, a trio of international open competitions gracing Malaysia simultaneously. The Malaysia Division of the 10th Hong Kong International Vocal Open Competition 2023, Chopin Memorial Prizes 2023 Hong Kong International Piano Open Competition and Hong Kong International String Competition 2023, organized by HOM Music Sdn. Bhd. took place concurrently on June 10 and 18, 2023. These preliminary rounds gathered music aficionados at the Dominus Arts Venue in Kuala Lumpur, culminating in a grand Prize Award Ceremony. These competitions, running concurrently, signify a milestone for the country, as Malaysia transitions into a global hub for music competitions.

Contestants who are eligible in the preliminary rounds will have the chance to compete in the Final, to be held in Hong Kong in late July to August 2023. The Final registration will remain open until June 28, 2023, for Vocal, and July 13, 2023, for Piano and String divisions.

According to Joyce Lim, the organizing chair, the purpose of the competitions is to foster the evolution of music at a professional and artistic standard, while providing a launchpad for Malaysia's best and brightest talents to be catapulted onto the global stage.

Watch out Berita RTM for this high-profile event spanning vocal, piano and string with the renowned and most respected figures Jury members. The Jury Members include Datuk Syafinaz Selamat, Dr. Yap Jin Hin, Elaine Pao, Helen Yap, Fauzi Marzuki, Lee Nai Kong, Chew Paul Wah, Boy Razak, Loo Bang Hean, Dr. Joanne Yeoh Pei Sze, Samuel Tan Hsien Chih, Dr. Khoo Khe Sin, Ysan Suit Yin, Jaz Tan, Ramlan Bin Mohd Imam, Ion Mazur, Mayya Musaeva and Dr. Yeoh Pei Ann.

The competitions featured 240 contestants and the 22 years old talented young pianist, Chen Jay Hou who won the Piano Classical Gold Prize stood up as the winner of the prestigious "Malaysia Musician Grand Prize Award 2023". This honour comes with a free return air ticket to Hong Kong for the finals and a coveted medal.

The Prize Award Ceremony was enlightened with the performance of the winners of Vocal POP Solo - Gold Prize, Nor Fatini Binti Nor'azlan, POP Choral - Gold and Silver Prize, Genius Seni Suara, Malaysia Grand Prize and Piano Classical Gold Prize winner, Chen Jay Hou, Piano Free Choice Silver Prize Lee Jie Hui, String Free Choice - Gold Prize, Li Zhuchen and Excellent Performance Prize - Youth Ensemble from Earth Tone Music Academy. The evening was lifted up with the performance of Mr. Ion Mazur who has been performing violin for the past 18 years with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO).

Congratulations to all the winners for Vocal, Piano and String and to all the contestants who have made the event a success!

UCSI will be having one session of Baroque Dance Workshop for Musicians on 22 July 2023 for the public at 1.00-2.30pm. The workshop is presented by Dr Qin Ying Tan, a specialist in early keyboards and Baroque dance; and Dr Irwin Shung, a Bach specialist/ pianist.

The Baroque Dance Workshop for Musicians will introduce the history and evolution of Baroque dances, its social significance, and the importance of these court dances in composers’ instrumental suites, for example, J. S. Bach’s French Suites for the Keyboard and Telamann’s Orchestral Suites. The participants will try out some basic Baroque dance steps, as well as “decoding” the dance notation of a Baroque minuet. We will also invite volunteers to play music they have learned or are learning Through this workshop, the participants will explore the tactile aspect of Baroque dances they play not just through the instrument (aurally), but also physically.
