Gleneagles Cartilage Conference 2024 supported by the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society. Our first hands-on cadaveric workshop of the year.

It was truly a remarkable summit, bringing together over 300 Otolaryngologits and industry experts.

For the first time, ENT Summit 2024 embraced a green initiative, with upcycled denim lanyards crafted by single mothers in Selangor as it highlighted our commitment to supporting local communities and empowering lower-income groups. Every detail, from the backdrops and photo walls to the entrance displays, was made from 100% recyclable and compostable cardboard, designed for reuse in future events. Even the name tags were printed on recycled paper using eco-friendly vegetable ink, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Hilton Kuala Lumpur was selected as the venue as it is a hotel group committed to sustainable travel. These efforts reflect our dedication to advancing not only ENT care but also environmental responsibility.

A heartfelt thank you to our organizing committee, delegates, and exhibitors for making this event an incredible success. As we look ahead, we are thrilled to announce ENT Summit Asia 2025, returning to Hilton Kuala Lumpur from 20-22 February 2025.

Malaysia China PCO exchange, our own little celebration of the 50th Anniversary of China-Malaysia Diplomatic Relations.

Thank you Liu Ping and China Star PCO DMC team for welcoming us to Beijing and opening up your home to us, fellow PCO Medical Conference Partners from Kuala Lumpur.

Memories and lifelong friendship is made like this.

Ping welcomed us with home cook dinner, we made dumplings together, sang songs, danced and shared stories. Ping gifted each of us with her book “My Chinese Dream: From Red Guard to CEO”.

China Star also arranged for us to visit the brand new, yet to officially open CNCC II and Beijing Olympic Park tour in the morning.

Following that we had a 4 hour PCO exchange of expertise, experience and technology between our 2 companies.

2 years ago I was introduced to Liu Ping in MBEW 2023 in Malaysia and I mentioned to her that I wanted to have a such an international exchange. This week, I am so happy my goal has come true.

I hope this inspires my young colleagues to see the future and opportunities of our Business Events industry. Some of them have been in our team for less than a year.

I hope to have more exchanges like this in future with PCOs based in other countries.

This time last week, we were at Day 1 of the 30th International Conference on Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus 2024.

Individuals born with spina bifida face a lifetime of health challenges. Majority experience up to 20 over surgeries by the time they reach 20 years old.

30th International Conference on Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus: A Legacy of Hope

The recent 30th ICSBH 2024 marked a significant milestone in the global effort to improve the lives of individuals with these conditions. The event, held for the first time in Malaysia; brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, and families from around the world to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices; from 30 countries living in 5 continents.

A key focus of the conference was to bridge the gaps.

Important Takeaways from the Conference included:

💌 Continuing efforts to build upon Community and Healthcare Awareness within both the healthcare community and the general public.

💌 Improving the Healthcare Experience: Participants discussed ways to enhance the healthcare experience for individuals with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, focusing on patient-centered care, timely access to services, and effective communication between healthcare providers and patients.

💌 Education and Inclusion: Parents, individuals, children, educators shared the challenges faced by children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in accessing education and participating in community activities. The challenges varied between different countries. Strategies include promoting inclusive education and facilitate social integration.

💌 Work and Career Opportunities: Participants explored ways to empower individuals with SBH to pursue meaningful careers and contribute to society. We had individuals within the SBH community who built successful careers share their journeys and experiences, providing hope to parents who were there.

💌 Prevention and Advocacy: The conference emphasized the importance of prevention strategies, such as folic acid supplementation, and the role of advocacy in promoting policies that support the rights and well-being of individuals with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

We want to thank all the delegates, speakers, organising committee and Spina Bifida Association of Malaysia and the International Federation of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus for giving us the opportunity to host this conference.

“It is a lifetime of health management. Most individuals born with spina bifida face nothing less than 10 surgeries throughout their lifetime, and 10 is being a very very modest number because many of the families that we have met said that their children, by the age of 20 would have undergone 15 to 20 surgeries. Not all surgeries are big but nevertheless, these are still surgeries”

There is a CRITICAL NEED to address and raise awareness about Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus in Malaysia and the world.

Spina Bifida affects 1 to 10 babies in every 1,000 births worldwide.

In fact, Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus is one of the MOST COMMON permanently disabling birth defects. In Malaysia, research indicates a range of *0.113 to 8.94 cases per live births* (Reference: Boo NY. et al; Adibah S et al.)

There is no cure for spina bifida.

Sadly, many cases of Spina Bifida can be prevented through folic acid and multi-nutrient supplementation to pre-pregnant women and mothers.

In conjunction with the celebration of World Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Day this year on the 25th October 2024, SIBIAM is organising the 30th International Conference on Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ICSBH 2024).

The objective is to raise awareness, address pressing medical and society challenges that children and individuals living with SBH face and discuss prevention issues.
