My brief to was straightforward: I wanted a Kedah that flatters my fat body. By this time, Najib would have already known and understand my need and my fit but he knew that he couldn’t just approach it simply. I still need a bit of drama, that’s for sure. After rounds of sketches, endless rounds of brainstorming and sharing between the two of us, I finally decided on what was supposed to be my second outfit that couldn’t finished in time. But I’m glad that I finally got to wear this in time for and maybe in future. As a fat girl who’s underserved not only by the mass fashion industry but also the local traditional scene, I have never felt like I could ever look and feel a 💯 in my culture’s traditional outfits. And that is reflected in my wardrobe—my traditional options are very limited. So I decided to start having my outfit custom made by designers who would understand and appreciate my body the way Najib would. Three collabs in and we’re not stopping, I hope. More reason to work hard to be able to afford these, inshaAllah. .
