Ring Doughnut Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 cups (500 grams) all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons or 7 grams active dry yeast
- 1 cup (240 milliliters) warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 grams) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon (2 grams) salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and add the activated yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/2 inch (1.25 centimeters) thickness. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cutters (one larger and one smaller) to cut out the doughnuts and the doughnut holes.
In a deep fryer or a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully place the doughnuts in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried doughnuts to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar . While the doughnuts are still warm, roll them in the sugar mixture until well coated
