The flag of Nigeria between 1914 and 1960 was a British Blue Ensign with a green six-pointed star described as the Seal of Solomon, surrounding a Tudor Crown (changed to St Edward's Crown in 1953] with the white word "Nigeria" under it on a red disc. It was adopted by the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria following the amalgamation of the Southern Nigeria Protectorate and Northern Nigeria Protectorate.

The colonial flag of Nigeria was adopted in 1914 following the amalgamation of Southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria. The badge on the flag was also used on the flag of the governor-general of Nigeria.

In April 1940, former colonial governor-general Frederick Lugard explained the green hexagram on the flag:

"The design of the interlaced triangles is I think commonly called Solomon's Seal. I do not know if and when it was adopted as the seal of Islam but it was found on the lid of a very handsome goblet or jug of brass and copper covered with designs, which was captured by the troops when the Emir of Kontagora, the principle slave-raider in Northern Nigeria was defeated. I thought it an appropriate badge for Northern Nigeria and as far as I can remember it was my own suggestion. On amalgamation of North and South it was adopted as the emblem of united Nigeria.

Nigeria on Wednesday re-opened the first phase of a Chinese-built light railway network in the capital Abuja, four years after it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic and immediately announced free rides for commuters. 🚄 On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu led a ceremony to re-open the train service that had been shut in 2020, more than a year after it began operating.
The government had mulled free rides for two months but Tinubu said commuters should not pay until the end of the year.
He did not say how his government would fund the free service, but it will be welcomed by commuters who are grappling with high transport costs after the removal last year of a popular petrol subsidy

Carlsberg A/S (/ˈkɑːrlzbɜːrɡ/; Danish: [ˈkʰɑˀlsˌpɛɐ̯ˀ]) is a Danish multinational brewer. Founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen, the company's headquarters is in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since Jacobsen's death in 1887, the majority owner of the company has been the Carlsberg Foundation. The company's flagship brand is Carlsberg (named after Jacobsen's son Carl). Other brands include Tuborg, Kronenbourg, Somersby cider, Holsten, Neptun, Belgian Grimbergen, Fix, one of Greece's oldest brands and more than 500 local beers. The company employs around 41,000 people, primarily in Europe and Asia. Carlsberg is currently the 6th largest brewery in the world based on revenue.

Carlsberg was founded by J. C. Jacobsen, a philanthropist and admirer of science. The first brew was finished on 10 November 1847, and the export of Carlsberg beer began in 1868 with the export of one barrel to Edinburgh, Scotland. Some of the company's original logos include an elephant, after which some of its lagers are named, and the swastika,[note 1] the use of which was discontinued in the 1930s because of its association with political parties in neighboring Germany.

Jacobsen's son, Carl Christian Hilmar Jacobsen, opened a brewery in 1882 named Ny (New) Carlsberg forcing J.C. Jacobsen to rename his brewery Gamle (Old) Carlsberg. Carl Jacobsen was an avid art collector. With his fortune he amassed an art collection first housed privately, but since 1897 housed public in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in central Copenhagen. The companies were merged and run under Carl's direction in 1906 and remained so until his death in 1914. Jacobsen set up the Carlsberg Laboratory in 1875, which worked on scientific problems related to brewing. It featured a Department of Chemistry and a Department of Physiology. The species of yeast used to make pale lager, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis, was isolated by Emil Christian Hansen at the laboratory in 1883 and bears its name; this was shared freely by Carlsberg. The Carlsberg Laboratory also developed the concept of pH and made advances in protein chemistry. In 1972, the Carlsberg Research Centre was established and the Carlsberg Laboratory is an independent unit of the Centre.[

WEST AFRICA ITINERARIES
Mainland West Africa is a vast region bordered by the Atlantic to the south and west, the jungles of Central Africa to the east, and stretching up into the Sahara to the north. Its 15 countries include some of Africa’s tiniest, such as the sliver that is Togo, and Gambia – which is almost entirely surrounded by Senegal. But there are giants, too; including the desert-covered Mali and Niger, as well as Nigeria. This is Africa’s most populous nation with 186 million people and around 500 ethnic groups. This pattern is replicated across West Africa, with hundreds of ethnicities, tribes, languages and dialects making up what may be the most culturally diverse region on earth.
French is the most common official language, with English the official language of Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Guinea Bissau is West Africa’s lone Portuguese speaker. 50 percent of West Africans are Muslim, with Christianity the second most common religion, particularly the further south you go. Traditional animistic beliefs are still held, however – often in tandem with imported religions. Voodoo, for example, still exerts a powerful influence over countries such as Benin and Togo
