Obafemi Awolowo University Giants kicked off their HIFL 21 campaign in Akungba, the home ground of Adekunle Ajasin University Luminaries.

Although, the game ended in a goalless draw but was not void of entertaining action from both the Home and Away Teams.

AAUA Luminaries swung into an early attack to catch the Giants by surprise but the defenders were up to the game by taking the goalless draw to halftime.

Having mastered the pitch, the OAU Giants took control of the match by creating numerous chances but were not converting. The attack that almost brought a goal was when Esiakpere Anthony made a good run and crossed the ball into the 18yards box after a spectacular pass from Muraina Toba. The ball was connected in the air by Adeyemi Opeyemi toward the goal post but was denied by the woodwork.

The OAU Giants pushed harder to get another chance at goal but the AAUA defenders were also not ready to give in to loss.

The match ended 0-0 at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba with Olaniyi Olumuyiwa winning the Man of the Match Award.

The second leg would be played at the Mainbowl of Obafemi Awolowo University Sports Complex, Ile-Ife on the 28th July, 2021 by 4pm.
