"YOU WILL BE OKAY"
Things my Mother and Father taught me:
You possess a strength you may not yet realize. You can also harbor a cruelty you might not fully grasp.
The smallest words can wound you deeply.
You will evolve. The person you are now is different from who you were three years ago, or even three minutes ago, and that’s perfectly fine. Especially if you’re not fond of who you were just moments ago.
People will enter your life and then leave. Some will be fleeting like a cigarette break, others will burn fiercely like forest fires.
You might not appreciate your name until you hear it spoken tenderly in someone’s dreams.
It’s perfectly fine to keep the curtains closed if you prefer.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to someone if you care for them deeply, even if it’s 4 a.m. If your feelings persist until morning, let them know again.
Find a sanctuary for yourself. Whether it’s the kitchen floor or the Travel section of a bookstore, make sure you have a refuge.
You will fear many things, from spiders and clowns to solitude, but your greatest fear will be that others see you as you see yourself.
At times, gazing at someone will feel like staring into the sun. Other times, someone will look at you as if you are the sun. Wait for that moment.
You will learn to sleep alone, navigating the cold corners but still finding comfort in your own bed.
Be friends with those who are broken. They know the true meaning of resilience.
It’s possible to love someone and also harbor resentment. You may miss them intensely but still choose not to answer their call.
You have talents, whether it's making someone laugh or remembering their special day. Never let anyone diminish the importance of these gifts.
You will always yearn for love. Even when someone is beside you, you may envy the pillow touching their cheek and the blanket covering their skin.
Loneliness is less about the number of people around you and more about how many truly understand you.
Expressions of love may not always be verbal. Sometimes it’s in the question, ‘Why didn’t you call me back?’ or the concern, ‘Let me know when you get home.’ Pay attention to these moments.
You will be okay.
