‘Who Cares About Us?’ Some Nigerian Children Sing Out as They Take Over Their Future with Their Voices
For these youngsters, the journey to a new future has just begun. They have decided to end the era of sitting down and waiting for the government or some organisations to decide their future. These students who call themselves ‘Peculiar Stars’ are students of Lekki Peculiar School who have decided to take their music from classroom to the studio. They are currently working on releasing their first album before the end of the current academic session. Their debut single, ‘Who Cares About Us,’ which would be released on the 17th of June is a direct message to the society about the neglect that a lot of children are facing which is exposing them to such problems as bullying, r**e, molestation and kidnap.
The Head of Administration of Lekki Peculiar School, Mr. Folahan Adeyemi pointed out that the emergence of this music group is a forward step in the school’s talent management initiatives which are geared towards bringing out the best in every child. He also hinted that besides the music production project the students’ talents are being developed in science, technology, sports, to mention a few and that other great products will soon emerge from these other talent areas too.
The members of Peculiar Stars music group are excited about the opportunity given to them by the school to start their music career early while they are still acquiring formal education. The song ‘Who Cares About Us’ is expected to hit the airwaves on the 17th of June, 2022.
