Elegance can be a sum of simple details. In other words, it's not always the big or conspicuous things that will give your event the extra glam you desire.

For example; notice the black and white striped table runner in the picture. Look how that simple detail changes everything. If it wasn't there the table would still be okay with the plain white cover. But as soon as you add the table runner, you don't want to go back to plain white covers any more. It's just a simple, most likely inexpensive table runner, but look how it makes a world of difference.

If you could see the aerial view of all the tables and their table runners, you'd appreciate it even more and make it a must have at your next event.

There's something about an outdoor evening event with beautiful soft lighting, the right kind of music (not something ear splitting loud and overly dramatic that'll suck the class out of the event.)

Outdoor events can be a bit tricky because of weather conditions, but if your event is going to be in dry season, then it'll be really wonderful if you have it outside. The fresh air, the calmness of the evening, the green life (if it's in a garden)...what's not to love about outdoor evening events?

Why put all that amazing glam of your event in a hall when you can have it in the open with flowers, a well manicured lawn, and the stars adding an extra touch of class to your decor.

In all things event, think quality first.

Let's talk food.
Your buffet spread doesn't have to have exotic foods with names you can hardly pronounce, if that arrangement is going to pinch your pocket.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having Lobster Ceviche or Duck Confit, if you can afford it and sleep well at night. But if you can't, you can still serve your guests regular food with top notch quality- "quality" being the operative word-and they'll be happy.

All you need is to engage the services of a food vendor you know can turn simple Moin Moin, to Moin Moin deluxe. When your guests eat it, they'll go home wondering how they've lived this long without coming in contact with such a wonderful Moin Moin.

When you want to select a vendor, don't just go for the packaging alone-beautiful chafing dishes, cutlery etc-go for packaging and quality tasting food. The dishes might be pretty but your guests won't eat pretty porcelain plates or gold spoons.

Well arranged poor tasting food on a beautiful dish is like a pretty lady that lacks character.

Think quality first, before considering other factors.

What's wrong with the colour "Black?" Absolutely nothing!

Black is a very "accomodating" colour if you know how to pair it with the right colours. A combination of Black, Gold and probably some other lighter colour of your choosing could give your event a very glam and regal look.

The reason a lot of people-mostly in this part of the world-don't readily choose Black as one of the theme colours for their event is because they attribute the colour with negative things. But Black is just a colour that has been given a bad rap.

So if you want your event looking elegant but without too many colours on display, try using black and a touch of lighter colours.

The importance of Lights in the overall ambience of your event can not be overestimated.

Do you want your event to have a warm and cozy ambience or would you prefer a more upbeat ambience; the answer is Lights.

The presence of a single lit candle stick on a table can transform a simple dinner date into a romantic dinner.

Firstly, figure out the kind of ambience you want your guests to feel when they step into your event.

Secondly, choose the kind of light that matches the ambience you want created for you.

For example, LED String Lights and lit candles always work well for a romantic ambience. Balloon Lighting are good for creating a warm and cozy ambience. Pin-spot Light are mostly used for indoor events and work well for gala dinners and also weddings. And so much more.

If you're having trouble choosing a colour theme for your event, don't sweat it!

It's not written in any constitution that you must have at least four different colours displayed at your event.

You can just have two colours and they'll give you the glam you desire.

For example, notice the beautiful colour display in the photo. There're only two colours-green and white. Yes, the green came in different shades, but at the end of the day it's still two colours.

If you want to use two colours, ensure that one of the colours is an "accomodatimg" colour; that is, a colour that matches with almost any colour. Black and white are the most popular in this category. For the second colour, you cam play with different shades of a particular colour.

Table centre pieces should be elegant but minimal.

If you're planning to have flowers as part of your centre pieces, then kindly ask the decor vendor not to go overboard with it.

You don't want the tables at your event looking like a whole garden was planted on the table, and then your guests sitting across from each other have to be looking through flower bushes to talk.

Are you worried about how much your event is going to cost? Keep calm!

Sometimes the things that make the budget high are the things people don't want to deal with. One of these things is the number of guests (both invited and uninvited).

There will be a significant reduction in your budget of you're bold enough to make your event "strictly by invite".

In this part of the world, it's almost a sacrilege to mention the phrase "strictly by invite," especially when all your kinsmen decide that they want to be at your event.

Word of advice: If you're the only one paying for your event and you know that going the "strictly by invite" route will reduce the pressure on your pocket, Sir/Ma grit your teeth and do it. People may be offended but take it like a boss. They'll get over it or not. Either way, you've saved your money.

If you don't have the heart for it, also grit your teeth, spend the money and be happy and satisfied with your decision. Your kinsmen will also be happy. Be encouraged!

Why else would caterers invest so much money in exquisite looking chaffing dishes, plates, cutleries etc. Aesthetics!

Serving cocktails or mocktails or both at events have gradually creeped in and is fast becoming a trend that doesn't look like it's going to lose steam any time soon.

Not everyone can afford to have cocktails or mocktails served at their event, but that doesn't mean they can't have "classy" on their budget.

Rather than serve drinks in their original containers, have them poured into glasses for your guests, add some ice cubes and a slice of cucumber or lemon or both for an extra touch. That's "classy" in a glass and on a budget!

What that simply means is tone down the colours, tone down the music selection, tone down the decor, tone down the food selection. Just tone it down!
