So we are in an era where many choirs do Nigerian songs for choir ministrations.

Yes, this is a welcome development to even see our own songs get to this level.

Also, many people talk about the level of anointing they carry, which I also agree with.

But here is the point and I will keep it professional: most of your Nigerian songs do not have the arrangements that make a choir and instrumentalist work and become better in skill and excellence.

Over 8 years, a choir and instrumentalist that do only Nigerian songs will become lazy compared to a choir that works on challenging songs like,
"If I tell God about my Problem" by Kurt Carr.

During choir concerts, you will see the choir struggling with concert songs because in the past 12 years, they have only been singing
*d m s* songs for choir ministrations.

Then the Instrumentalist will take 3 months to score a song that should have taken 3 days because for 16 years he did nothing outside
*m s d*

The woman selling akara by the road side can fill in for an Alto singer during Choir ministration because choirs now have little standard due to laziness which has been born out of only attempting
*D M S* songs.

Yes, we should consume Nigerian-made goods but please also check where the world is, so that we don't end up becoming lazy in delivery.

SSS charges Emefiele with illegal possession of fi****ms, ammunition

The charge of illegally possessing fi****ms is a downgrade of much weightier allegations of terrorism financing and economic sabotage the SSS earlier levelled against Mr Emefiele.

The Nigerian government suspended the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, with illegal possession of fi****ms and ammunition.
The case consisting of two counts of illegal possession of fi****ms and ammunition was filed against Mr Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Channels Television reports.
A copy of the charges shared on the television’s website showed the case was filed on Thursday (13 July), the same day a judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the State Security Service (SSS) one-week ultimatum to either charge him in court or release him.
The SSS had held Mr Emefiele, who was arrested on 10 June, for over a month without charge until Thursday’s ruling.
In the newly filed case, the agency accused Mr Emefiele of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a licence; an offence said to be contrary to Section 4 of the Fi****ms Act, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

In the second count, the SSS charged him with illegally possessing 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a licence. The offence is also said to be contrary to Section 8 of the Fi****ms and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
The case has not been assigned to a judge.
Federal High Court Headquarters, Abuja

Illegal possession of fi****ms vs terrorism financing

The charge is a downgrade of much weightier allegations of terrorism financing and economic sabotage the SSS earlier levelled against the suspended CBN governor.

In a desperate move to obtain an order for his arrest, the SSS had stated on oath in December 2022 that Mr Emefiele was sponsoring the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a slew of weighty allegations, the SSS accused him of sabotaging President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, financing terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism, and committing other economic crimes to undermine Nigeria’s national security.

The agency also accused Mr Emefiele of mismanaging the CBN subsidiary, NISRAL, and the central bank’s Anchor Borrowers Programme.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, who heard the SSS’ application for an arrest order against Mr Emefiele, had dismissed the request on the grounds of improper procedure.

The agency took no further action until after Mr Emefiele was suspended on 9 June by the new President, Bola Tinubu.
The SSS filed the lighter charges after over one month of holding Mr Emefiele in custody. But it is unclear if the agency plans to file additional charges against him.

Lawyer criticises SSS

A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, is among Nigerians disappointed by SSS’s charges.

Mr Effiong said the allegation of illegal fi****ms possession “is a crime for the police.”

“The SSS is essentially a political tool in the hands of every occupant of A*o Rock. They are notorious for bungling cases and creating needless political tensions. The SSS needs to rethink its involvement in cases. It is becoming very embarrassing,” Mr Effiong said on his page on Saturday.
The lawyer argued that the CBN’s currency redesign policy under Mr Emefiele’s watch was not a crime.
“The Naira redesign policy is not a crime, and it is immaterial whether it was properly implemented. It seems the suspension and arrest of Emefiele were not propelled by any interest in holding him accountable for the mismanagement of public resources, but a political vendetta.”
Mr Effiong queried, “Where are the charges on terrorism financing? Why is Mr Tinubu handling this case like this?”
He noted that many Nigerians applauded Mr Emefiele’s suspension owing to the hardships the naira redesign policy occasioned on them.
Mr Effiong, however, criticised the handling of Mr Emefiele’s arrest and detention for over a month without trial.
“The SSS has taken Nigerians for granted again. I am upset about the two-count charge filed against the suspended CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele.”

Arrest, detention, suits and judgements

The SSS had arrested Mr Emefiele at his home in Lagos on 10 June and immediately flew him to Abuja to face interrogations.
Worried about SSS’ denial of access to him in custody, his lawyers and family members had launched a fundamental human rights enforcement suit on his behalf at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja.
On 16 June, the court ordered the Director General of SSS, Yusuf Bichi, to grant lawyers access to the suspended CBN governor in custody. The court issued the order based on a request by the detainee’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu.
In his final judgement on Thursday’s case, the judge, Hamza Muazu, ordered the SSS to release or charge the suspended CBN governor in court within one week.

He held that the Nigerian constitution is rooted in the rule of law and presupposes that all actions must be done according to the law.

“Detention, no matter how small, can amount to a breach of fundamental rights,” Mr Muazu said.
He noted that since allegations against the suspended CBN governor were ordinarily bailable offences, SSS should grant him administrative bail pending trial.
Mr Muazu held that Mr Emefiele’s continued detention without trial amounted to a gross violation of his fundamental human rights.
But the court referenced an order from an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court permitting the SSS to detain Mr Emefiele for a period of 14 days to enable it to conclude its investigations.
With this, the judge held that Mr Emefiele could not prove his arrest, detention, and investigation were unlawful since it was based on a valid court order.
He described SSS as a reputable institution mandated to guarantee the country’s internal security.
Therefore, the judge said the agency must conduct its operations with strict adherence to the provisions of the Constitution.
“At this point, the continued detention of the applicant cannot be justified without any charge against him.
“At the very least, justice demands that the applicant be released on administrative bail.
“Consequently, I hereby make an order, directing the respondents to, within one week, charge the applicant to court or release him on administrative bail,” the court held.
Meanwhile, another judge of the FCT High Court in Abuja on Friday declared the arrest and detention of Mr Emefiele by the SSS as illegal.
The judge, Bello Kawu, held that the arrest, detention, and interrogation of Mr Emefiele breached a subsisting judgement and orders of another judge, M. A. Hassan.
Mr Kawu agreed with Mr Emefiele’s lawyer, Peter Abang, that the action taken against him by the SSS was illegal and amounted to a nullity in view of the subsisting judgment by the other judge delivered on 29 December 2022.
The judge went on to set aside any warrant of arrest obtained or procured by the SSS for the arrest of Mr Emefiele in connection with the allegations of terrorism financing, fraudulent practices, money laundering, and threat to national security before any court.

During the Buhari administration, Mr Emefiele pursued an unpopular naira redesign policy that brought untold hardship to many Nigerians.
The policy put him on the line of verbal attacks from President Tinubu, who was then campaigning for office ahead of the last presidential election in February.
Since coming to office, Mr Tinubu had attacked Mr Emefiele, accusing him of destroying Nigeria’s financial system.

Court Of Appeal Affirms Judgment Of Federal High Court Warri Declaring that FRSC Can Only Operate On Federal Roads.
18th july 2023.

Plaintiff’s Counsel, Kunle Edun Says Judgment is A Testament to the Rule Of Law.

The Court of Appeal sitting at Asaba, today delivered judgment in Appeal No. CA/AS/276/2019: FEDERAL ROAD SAFETY COMMISSION AND DARLINGTON UGO EHIKIM ESQ. and dismissed the appeal filed by the Federal Road Safety Commission challenging the judgment of the Federal High Court, Warri delivered by Hon. Justice E. Nwite.

The Federal High Court had on the 25th day of January, 2019 entered judgement in favour of the Plaintiff, who is a member of the NBA Warri and granted all the reliefs sought, which includes a declaration that the Federal Road Safety Commission has no right to operate and/or carry any activity on State and Local governments roads. The trial court also issued restraining orders against the Commission from operating on roads other than federal highways and also awarded cost of N10m against the Federal Road Safety Commission.

Plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr. Kunle Edun commended both the trial and appellate court for standing by the proper interpretation of the law and that by this Judgment, FRSC personnel who are on roads inside cities and towns except Federal highways, have no right to be there, as their operations on such roads which are mainly to extort road users are illegal. Kunle Edun further stated that the Judgment is a re-emphasization of the federal structure of the country because the FRSC being a federal agency should only concern itself with federal roads.

Peter Obi responds to report he will run for president in 2027
Peter Obi says his focus and that of the ‘Obidient’ Movement will not derail from the original mission of creating a new Nigeria.
ByAgency Report July 15, 2023 Reading Time: 2 mins read
The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has dismissed media reports that he is looking forward to run for office in the 2027 presidential elections.

The presidential candidate also denied commenting on appointees of the Federal Government.

Peter Obi, who is also a former governor of Anambra, made this known in a statement on his official Twitter handle in Lagos on Saturday.

The presidential candidate described both reports as bogus, regretting that Nigerian politics had deteriorated to the level where manipulation of the media space was now a trade.

“I have noticed with dismay, an emerging pattern, where fake media reports and news items are predicated on interviews and press remarks I never granted,” Peter Obi said.

“Two recent instances relating to my saying that I am looking forward to running for office in 2027 on a supposed Arise TV interview.

“This never took place and the other, about my reaction to prospective appointees into the current Federal Government.”

The presidential candidate said he would not allow fake news to distract his focus for a new Nigeria which he said is possible.

The politician said his focus and that of the ‘Obidient’ Movement that he leads, would not derail from the original mission of creating a new Nigeria.

He said for him, he would continue to speak on topical national issues via recognised news and media outfits but certainly would not concern himself with cheap distraction.

He also said the focus of his followers had never been on political appointments and positions.

“Our emphasis has never been on political positions or personal aggrandisement but on putting the nation on the right footing and deepening our democracy by helping to elevate and empower the downtrodden in our society,” Peter Obi said.

He added that that was the reason his messages during the electioneering campaigns were all issue-driven.

12 million poor Nigerian households to receive N8,000 monthly for 6 months

The president assured that when the loan is granted, the sum of N8,000 will be transferred monthly to the bank accounts of 12 million poor and low income households for six months.

The Senate has approved the request of President Bola Tinubu to go ahead with the processing of a $800 million loan facility from the World Bank.
The Senate also amended the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to accommodate N500 billion provision for palliatives to mitigate the effect of petroleum subsidy removal on poor Nigerians.
Mr Tinubu requested the two approvals in separate letters read by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, at the plenary on Thursday.

$800 million World Bank loan

The loan, according to Mr Tinubu’s request, will be used to cater for the welfare of the vulnerable and poor households in the country under the National Safety Net Programme of the federal government.
The president assured that when the loan is granted, the sum of N8,000 will be transferred monthly to the bank accounts of 12 million poor and low income households for six months.

Yemi Adaramodu, the chairman of the senate committee on media and public affairs, while addressing journalists after the plenary, said the $800 million is a “World Bank Assisted project”.
“It is a Word Bank Assisted project, we are not approving a loan, the money has been there already even before the 10th assembly,” he explained.

Debate on 2022 Appropriation Act

The leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, (APC, Ekiti Central) led the debate on amendment of the 2022 Appropriation Act to accommodate funds for the provision of palliatives to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal.

He noted that the president’s request on the palliatives is necessary.
The senate leader said the request, if granted by members of the upper legislative chamber, will help the federal government mitigate the effect of petroleum subsidy removal on Nigerians.

The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, who contributed to the debate, supported the request of the president on the palliatives.
Solomon Olamilekan (APC, Ogun West) said if the request is granted, it will help to mitigate the effect of petroleum subsidy removal and other economic reforms implemented by the Tinubu’s administration.

After the debate, the senate president announced a closed-door session which lasted for about an hour.
Upon resumption from the session, Mr Akpabio subjected the request for N500 billion subsidy palliatives to debate.
Many senators voted for the amendment of the supplementary appropriation act as requested by Mr Tinubu to accommodate funds for palliative.

Amendment of 2022 Appropriation Act

Following the vote to grant the president’s request, the senate resolved to amend the 2022 Appropriation Act to accommodate the N500 billion proposed by President Tinubu.
Mr Akpabio thereafter announced the amendment to accommodate the N500 billion.

The Senate President noted that after the removal of N500 billion from the supplementary budget, the remaining funds will be allocated as follows:
-N185,236,937,815 to the Ministry of Works and Housing to alleviate the impact of the severe flooding experienced in the country in 2022 on road infrastructure across the 6 geopolitical zones;
-N19,200,000,000 to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to ameliorate the massive destruction to farmlands across the country during the severe flooding experienced last year;
-N35 billion to the National Judicial Council;
– N10 billion to Federal Capital Territory Administration for critical projects; and
-N70 billion to the National Assembly to support the working conditions of new members.

BLACK MEN ARE LIKELY TO DIE OF POSTRATE CANCER EXPERTS REVILES.

18 July 2023

Assistant Professor in Clinical and Administrative Sciences in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Centre and a faculty member of the TSET Health Promotion Research Centre, Stephenson Cancer Centre in Oklahoma, Dr Motolani Ogunsanya, speaks with LARA ADEJORO on factors predisposing black people to greater risk of prostate cancer and how to prevent them.

What is prostate cancer?
The prostate, a gland about the size of a walnut, is situated just below the bladder and in front of the re**um in men. It surrounds the urethra, which is the tube responsible for carrying urine out of the bladder. The prostate plays a role in producing and storing fluid that aids in forming semen. Prostate cancer ranks as the second most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men. In highly developed countries, new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed three times higher compared to developing countries. Remarkably, prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men in more than half of the countries worldwide.

What are the causes of prostate cancer?

The exact cause of prostate cancer remains unclear but several risk factors have been identified. These include age – the older one gets, the higher the risk of prostate cancer, family history of prostate cancer, race, diet, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle. Other known risk factors include specific genetic mutations, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, and conditions like Lynch syndrome. BRCA1 and BRCA2 stand for breast cancer gene 1 and breast cancer gene 2. They are genes associated with increased breast and ovarian cancer risks. Mutations in these genes can lead to a higher likelihood of developing these cancers.

It is said that black people have a greater risk of prostate cancer than other races. It is also more likely to be aggressive or advanced in black people. Why is this so?

Black men worldwide have the highest incidence rates globally, suggesting that African ancestry may play a role in prostate cancer risk modulation. While a few lifestyles such as smoking, excess body weight, and specific dietary and environmental factors have been tentatively associated with prostate cancer. However, the evidence supporting these associations is still unclear.

Election materials: PDP members protest at INEC office in Rivers.

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State have staged a protest at the state office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The protesters blocked all sections of the Port Harcourt-Aba express road leading to the INEC office.

PDP members in the state are demanding the Certified True Copy of the results that declared the winner of the election on March 18.

They also demand that INEC does not allow just one political party to inspect electoral material, but that inspection should be done jointly.

One of the leaders of the protest, Edison Ehie, who is the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, said their mandates were freely given to them by Rivers people and vowed to protect it.

Ehie said their demand for joint inspection follows alleged uncovered plots by a certain political party in collaboration with some security agencies and INEC, to smuggle fake results into the INEC office in the guise of inspecting election materials.

Lawyer files suit challenging Atiku?s citizenship

A lawyer, Johnmary Jideobi has filed a lawsuit at the federal high court in Abuja, challenging the eligibility of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to contest in 2023 presidency, days after he won the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential ticket.

The lawyer claimed that Atiku is not constitutionally qualified to participate in the presidential poll in the lawsuit which has the PDP, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attorney-general of the federation (AGF) listed as the second, third and fourth defendants.

Jideobi asked the court to determine;

"Whether by the combined provisions of sections 1(1) & (2), 25 and 131(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), only a Nigeria citizen by birth can contest for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticized immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, for seeking to be President in 2023 when there are issues in the Ministries.

While speaking at a political gathering in Oyo state on Tuesday, May 24, Wike said these ministers "have no conscience'' for seeking to be president.

“Nigerians know my views. I believe in restructuring. I believe in state police. You cannot stop insecurity in this country without state police which is the practice in all countries that run true federalism. Intelligence is key. Before it happens you’ve stopped it or cage them.

Look at it, 42 people died in train blast, up until now no concrete report. This is a country where a Minister of Transport, after people died in such accident and the next day, he went and collected forms for presidency.

You’re a Minister of Education, schools have closed for how many months, the next thing; the minister went and collected form for presidency. I have not seen a country like this, no conscience.”
